Alamo Drafthouse Brooklyn expanding, adding nine theaters & more

Alamo Drafthouse‘s downtown Brooklyn location is about to get bigger. They’re taking over the space that was Century 21 on the floors below, adding nine new theaters, plus additional restrooms, extra lobby space and more. Alamo says construction begins in the fall, and the new section will open in 2020. Stay tuned. Meanwhile, there’ll soon be an Alamo Drafthouse in Staten Island complete with a kung-fu themed bar curated by RZA.

Speaking of, Alamo is hosting what sounds like a fun event on Oscar night (2/24) — a beamed-in, live-on-screen event with On Cinema host (and Neil Hamburger alter ego) Gregg Turkington and Tim Heidecker. Here’s the general gist:

NOTE: This is not a screening of the actual Academy Awards in any way, shape, or form. But with live results, expert analysis, and movies like Tom Cruise in them, you can’t lose!

Hosted* by actor, director, screenwriter, songwriter, recording artist, self-taught attorney, and entrepreneur Tim Heidecker (“Decker”, Dekkar, DKR, FANTASTIC FOUR, ANT-MAN AND THE WASP), the On Cinema Oscar Special is an annual tradition that always features huge special guests, earth-shattering surprises, and expert analysis and insight from film historian, archivist, and Guinness World Record holder Gregg Turkington (“Decker,” ANT-MAN). Join us as we all discover who Oscar has smiled upon this year!

Tickets are free with a $5 food voucher and more details are here.
