Alamo Drafthouse hosting clown-only screenings of ‘IT’
Stephen King‘s much-loved 1986 novel IT finally makes it to the big screen on September 7 as the first of a two part movie series hits theaters. The films are directed by Andy Muschetti who made 2013’s Mama, and the film stars Finn Wolfhand (Stranger Things), and Bill Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise the Clown. You can watch the trailer for IT below.
In Austin, TX Alamo Drafthouse is hosting special clown-only screenings of IT on September 5 and it is as terrifying as it sounds:
For this special Clown screening of IT, all attendees should arrive dressed as a clown in order to attend. Please arrive early and join us in the Barrel O’ Fun beginning at 5:30pm for an IT pre-party where we will have face-painters available for clown “touch-ups”, a photo booth, raffles for prizes, and other terrifying merriment. Please arrive in your own Pennywise best and be ready to float with us.
No word on whether juggalos, specifically, are among the clowns welcomed.
Sadly (or not sadly?) Alamo NYC is not doing clown-only screenings but if you want to show up like that you are more than welcome to. They do, however, have commemorative IT pins and special Stephen King-themed issues of their Birth.Movies.Death. magazine that can be bundled with your ticket purchase.
The novel was previously made into a 1990 television miniseries that, like a lot of Stephen King adaptations, isn’t very good. Maybe this one will be different.
Stranger Things, which is clearly influenced by IT and other King books, returns for a second season on Netflix on October 27.
