Aldous Harding

Aldous Harding reissuing debut LP on Flying Nun in the US, touring with Deerhunter

New Zealand’s Aldous Harding will give her very good 2014 self-titled debut album a US release on September 30 via her home country’s legendary Flying Nun Records. She’s got a sound that pulls from late ’60s / early ’70s loner folk and the genre’s many revivalists that have popped up over the past 15 years or so. There’s plenty of great stuff in this realm already, but don’t let that stop you from checking out Aldous. The first thing I heard/watched was a live video of her playing non-album track “Horizon” and I was instantly hooked by her set of powerhouse pipes. The album sounds just as gripping, like opener “Stop Your Tears” which you can watch the video for below. There’s a haunting element to this stuff, kinda like Marissa Nadler or Emma Ruth Rundle or Emily Jane White, but also sometimes a very earthy, rootsy one. I’d highly recommend checking this out for yourself, which you can do below.

Aldous will come to the US this fall to open for Deerhunter on tour. That tour also has Deerhunter’s Atlanta neighbors Jock Gang and it hits NYC on October 24 at Webster Hall. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday (8/12) at 10 AM. All dates are listed below.

Speaking of Flying Nun, the label is throwing a free party In NYC this week.
