Algiers announce new LP & tour, share "Dispossession" video

Atlanta’s Algiers have announced their third album, There is No Year, which will be out January 17 via Matador. The band made the record with Randall Dunn [Sunn O))), Marissa Nadler] and Ben Greenberg [Zs, Uniform Hubble] who helped them expand their goth/postpunk/industrial-draped brand of gospel and soul. The first single is the foreboding “Dispossession” which comes with a striking black-and-white video shot in the Noisy le Grand commune in the Paris suburbs. “The specter of dispossession is haunting us all,” says bassist/keyboardist Ryan Mahan. “Everywhere the imperial world represses the ghoulish histories that sustain our pasts, presents and futures. Franklin’s lyrics throughout ‘Dispossession’ and on our new record, ‘There is No Year’, like a neo-Southern Gothic novel with an anti-oppression undercurrent, testify to this modern horror, and chronicle the various ways we all—through living and longing—endure and resist its persistent attacks.” Watch that video below.

The band, which includes former Bloc Party drummer Matt Tong, will be on tour in 2020 with the North American leg kicking off March 11 in Washington, DC and wrapping up in Brooklyn on April 9 at Saint Vitus. Tickets for Vitus go on sale Friday, November 1 at 10 AM.
