photo: Deerhunter at Pitchfork Paris 2015 (more by Rachel Juarez-Carr)
Deerhunter's excellent new album Fading Frontier is out now on 4AD and they've been supporting it on tour dates like Pitchfork Paris, and also with various live sessions. They just appeared on Marc Riley's BBC Radio show where they were interviewed and played three songs off their new album, plus a cover of the Buzzcocks' "Why Can't I Touch It." Listen to the show here. Bradford first comes on around the 17-minute mark and the Buzzcocks cover starts around the one-hour 17-minute mark. They also did some songs off the album in a video session for KCRW, which you can watch below.
Their tour, with Bradford's Atlas Sound project opening, hits NYC for shows in Manhattan on December 8 at Irving Plaza and Brooklyn on December 9 at Warsaw (both sold out). After the Manhattan show, Deerhunter drummer Moses Archuleta, aka Moon Diagrams, will DJ the afterparty at Avenue A club Elvis Guesthouse (which may no longer host live bands). Tickets are on sale now.
Moon Diagrams released an EP earlier this year. Stream a track from that, with the updated list of Deerhunter dates, below...
Deerhunter drummer Moses Archuleta has released a cassette EP under the name Moon Diagrams. Care Package is part of label Geographic North's "Sketch for Winter" series that also featured cassette EPs from A Sunny Day in Glasgow, Pan-Am, and Night Cleaner. You can stream "Scratch the Snow" from Moon Diagrams' cassette, which finds Archuleta in ambient motorik mode on a 10-minute trip through the clouds. Stream it below.
Moses Archuleta w/ Deerhunter at Webster Hall in 2010 (more by Amanda Hatfield)
There is still little known about Deerhunter drummer Moses Archuleta's new solo project, Moon Diagrams, other than that he is one of the support acts on Ariel Pink's upcoming tour (but not the NYC date) and was scheduled to open for Julia Holter and Hundred Waters when their tour hits NYC on Friday (8/31) at Bowery Ballroom, but he is no longer listed on Bowery's site (Silent Drape Runners is instead). He is, however, listed on Todd P's site as one of the artists playing 285 Kent TONIGHT (8/30) along with Hamish Kilgour (of The Clean) and Hamish's fellow New Zealanders Team Ugly, plus Mas Ysa, The Lindseys, and DJ Bruno Coviello (of Light Asylum). Admission for this all ages show is $7 at the door, and doors open at 8 PM.
Back in 2009, Moses spoke about why he didn't have any solo material, saying:
It's not like I haven't had opportunities to do it, but it isn't as natural for me as it is for Lockett or Bradford, who have been recording themselves since high school. I'd need to decide pretty pointedly that that's what I wanted to do before doing it.He must have finally decided what he wants to do then, and you can head to 285 Kent tonight to see what he came up with. If you caught Moses DJing at Highline Ballroom on New Year's Day (1/1/12), maybe he dropped a glimpse of what influenced the direction he'll be going in?

DOWNLOAD: Hundred Waters - "Thistle" (TOKiMONSTA Remix) (MP3)
After recently finishing up the Full Flex Express Tour with Skrillex, Diplo, Grimes, and others, art pop group Hundred Waters announced that they signed to Skrillex's label, OWSLA, and that their first release for the label will be the Thistle EP (due out 8/21). The EP features remixes of the track "Thistle" from their excellent self titled debut LP by Araabmuzik, Star Slinger, TOKiMONSTA, Lockah, Different Sleep, and Troublemaker. Our first taste of that EP comes today (via P4K) with a remix of the track by TOKiMONSTA (who was also on the Full Flex Express Tour). It's a great listen and hearing how natural Hundred Waters sounds with screwed vocals and heavy beats makes it a little less wtf that they signed to Skrillex's label. You can download the remix above and check out a trailer for the EP below. If you haven't heard their LP yet, you can stream it in full below.
Since we last spoke, Moon Diagrams (aka Deerhunter drummer Moses Archuleta) was added to that Bowery Ballroom show too. Moon Diagrams will also be supporting a number of dates on Ariel Pink's upcoming tour, but not the NYC show at Webster Hall (9/14) with Bodyguard and TEEN (tickets).
A list of all Moon Diagrams dates and the Hundred Waters stream and video are below.
