American Wrestlers

American Wrestlers streaming 2 tracks off 'Goodbye Terrible Youth,' touring

Last year, American Wrestlers (aka Gary McClure) released his debut self-titled album, a lo-fi, drum machine-backed record of boyish indie pop that was kinda like his labelmate Youth Lagoon. (it also often sounded like a lo-fi Phoenix.) Now a full band, American Wrestlers will release their second album, Goodbye Terrible Youth, on November 4 via Fat Possum. So far they’ve released two songs, “Give Up” and “Amazing Grace,” which are both bigger-sounding records that take advantage of the band’s new lineup and their higher-quality production, but don’t lose the youthful charm of Gary’s voice (despite the album’s title). “Give Up” gets kinda rockin’ at the end, which was never really possible when American Wrestlers was a solo projecft. Listen to both below.

American Wrestlers have also announced a tour, which includes a Brooklyn show on December 7 at Baby’s All Right. Tickets for that show will be on sale soon. American Wrestlers also play a couple dates on the Sunflower Bean / Lemon Twigs tour (but not their NYC show). All dates are listed below.
