The Jayhawks, a Chuck Berry tribute & Low Cut Connie @ Americana Fest (pics, setlists)

Lincoln Center Out of Doors put a cap on 2017 this past weekend with its annual Americana Fest. The first night (8/12) of the two-day celebration of country, roots and vintage rock n’ roll was headlined by Midwest greats The Jayhawks, whose deep catalog of songs made for a great pairing with the cool August evening air. Setlist is below.

Before that, Living Colour’s Vernon Reid led a tribute to rock forefather Chuck Berry, who died earlier this year, which featured a bevy of guest vocalists, including his LC bandmate Corey Glover, plus Nona Hendryx, Mikel Banks and more. The tribute ended, appropriately, with a call-and-response rendition of Berry’s only #1 U.S. hit, “My Ding-a-Ling,” which also included a gender-equality update from Nona. Video of that and “Johnny B. Goode,” as well as the setlist, are below.

Philly boogie torchbearers Low Cut Connie opened the night and pictures of their set, as well as Jayhawks and the Chuck Berry tribute, are in the gallery above.
