Amoeba Records LA moving, hoping to sell weed (like the Berkeley store)

Amoeba Records‘ Los Angeles outlet will be moving from its current 6400 Sunset Blvd location, which it has occupied since 2001. Marc Weinstein, who co-owns the store with Dave Prinz, told Variety that the new space will be “within blocks” of where it is now. The deal is not done yet though, as Variety says “three nearby properties are being considered within the 20,000 sq. ft. range, two of them along Hollywood Blvd.” That means the new spot will be just 15% smaller than the massive current Hollywood location which is right next to the ArcLight Theater. Amoeba sold the 6400 property back in 2015 and the new owners leased the space back to them, and that lease runs out early 2019.

Weinstein also tells Variety that once the new location is decided on, the store will “be diligent” in securing permits for a marijuana dispensary, much like Amoeba Berkeley’s Hi Fidelity dispensary which opened last month.
