Anti-Flag 20/20 Vision

Anti-Flag announce new album, share "Hate Conquers All"

Anti-Flag recently released the anti-fascism/white supremacy single “Christian Nationalist,” and now it’s been revealed that it’s the lead single off their upcoming album 20/20 Vision, which is due January 17 via the band’s own A-F Records and Spinefarm (pre-order). Regarding the themes on this LP, bassist/vocalist Chris #2 says, “We have actively chosen to not attack Presidents directly, either with album art or songs about certain times in history, because we recognize that the issues we’re dealing with are cyclical. But this record in particular, we kind of said, well fuck that, we need to be on the record in opposition to the policies of Donald Trump and Mike Pence.”

Guitarist/vocalist Justin Sane adds, “This record is a warning to people holding neofascist ideas or people who are enabling these types of positions, whether you’re outright racist or you’re enabling racism or sexism or homophobia or transphobia. You need to make a choice at this point. What we’ve seen with this White House is that there’s no grey area anymore.”

Along with the album announcement comes the release of opening track “Hate Conquers All,” a total ripper that begins with a sample of Trump speaking at a rally. “What I found compelling about that particular Trump sample is that it’s the quintessential move that he pulls, which is: Say the thing into the world early, so that when it happens later, people are already accustomed to it,” says Chris #2. “The song is a kneejerk reaction to the idea of Love Trumps Hate and this idea that love can beat back hatred. That equates racism with hatred. That’s a false equivalence of what the language should be. If you’re racist, you’re racist. You don’t just hate people. It should be considered a much more vile term.” It’s just as powerful a song as you’d expect from this band at this point, and it’s got the kind of hook you can picture thousands of fans screaming back in Anti-Flag’s faces at their shows. Listen and watch the video below.

Anti-Flag will be in the NYC-area for an in-store/signing at Long Island’s Looney Tunes on 10/30 and then for a sold-out, BrooklynVegan-presented show at Mercury Lounge on Halloween, and they have a few other U.S. one-offs this year after that. In 2020, they’ll head out on a proper North American tour, including a run with Grade 2 that hits Asbury Park’s House of Independents on 3/17 (tickets). All dates are listed below.
