anti-semitic graffiti at Brooklyn temple causes Ilana Glazer event cancellation

The final event in Ilana Glazer‘s four-part political activism “Generator Series” at Murmrr Ballroom was to have happened Thursday night (11/1) at Murmrr Theatre, which is located inside of Union Temple of Brooklyn, when anti-semitic graffiti was found in one of the synagogue’s hallways stairwells. The New York Daily News reports that the graffiti — which included  “Hitler,” “Jews better be ready” and “Die Jew rats, we are here!” written in black marker — was found around 8 PM, right before the event was scheduled to begin. Attendee Shelby Quackenbush posted on Instagram, “Unfortunately, after waiting for over an hour to enter the auditorium, we were notified that some emboldened bigot had covered the walls of the Jewish temple that was housing the event with anti-Semitic symbols and slurs. Organizers felt unsafe and uncomfortable carrying on with the event, and rightfully shut it down.” There’s a little video of Ilana announcing the event was canceled, below.

This comes less than a week after a gunman killed 11 people at a synagogue in Pittsburgh.
