Antibalas played Prospect Park w/ Combo Chimbita, who were added to Summer Thunder
The free BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival shows in Prospect Park continued last night (7/12) with a show headlined by local Afrobeat greats Antibalas, who had a few of their past members come back and sit in with the band. There was well-matched support from two other NYC-based “world music” (for lack of a better term) acts, Combo Chimbita and Nickodemus. Pictures are in the gallery above.
With this show behind them, Combo Chimbita were added to another free outdoor Brooklyn show series, Summer Thunder at Union Pool. They play on August 11 with DJ Bembona. As previously mentioned, they also play MoMA Summer Thursdays on July 26 (free with museum admission). They have other dates outside of NYC, which are listed here.
Nickodemus, who released his new album A Long Engagement (featuring Innov Gnawa, The Real Live Show, Pimps of Joytime, Jahdan Blakkamore, Femina, The Spy from Cairo, La Yegros, Carol C, Alsarah, and Grey Reverend) earlier this year, plays Brooklyn tonight (7/13) at C’mon Everybody with Gitkin (live) and El Freaky Collective (tickets).
