Antibalas playing two NYC shows this weekend

NYC Afrobeat band Antibalas plays a pair of hometown shows this weekend: Saturday (10/12) at Roulette in Brooklyn (tickets) and Sunday (10/13) at the Highline Ballroom (tickets). The opener the first night is Tuelo Her Cousins, and Song Sparrow Research for the second.

The Saturday’s concert serves as a benefit for MIMA Music (whose mission is “to build a global network of arts-education programs, music education partners, and music based curriculum in under-served schools around the world”).

Last year, the band released a new record, its first in a half-decade (they’d been kept pretty busy with other projects, like the musical Fela!). The self-titled collection was recorded at Daptone Record’s House of Soul Studios in Brooklyn. You can watch a session of the band performing at the studio below…
