Brooklyn Democrat Candlelight Vigil Pictures
Brooklyn Democrat Candlelight Vigil in Prospect Park - 02 September 2004

Timed to coincide with George Bush's nomination for president at the RNC, Brooklyn democrats organized a "candlelight vigil," and march across Prospect Park in the dark.
The exact schedule went something like this:
8:15 People meet at the Prospect Park bandshell near 9th St & Prospect Park West. Candles are handed out and lit.
8:15 - 8:45 Brooklyn resident, Papa Dish, sings songs about Republicans.
8:45 - 9:20 Brooklyn politicians speak.
9:20 - 10:00 March from the bandshell to Grand Army Plaza through the park (on the road that runs inside the park).
There were lots of cops, politicians, kids, senior citizens, and dogs. It was very peaceful and extremely pro-Kerry.
Papa Dish:

No one attempted to barbecue:

The event was sponsored by MNA (Mission Not Accomplished):

The crowd was fairly thin compared to the space:

Harley Diamond, Candidate for Kings County Civil Court:

Brooklyn Assemblyman James Brennan speaks:

Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz is up next:

Congressman Major R. Owens came after Marty:

The crowd started to get a little bigger:

Then Brooklyn Councilwoman Yvette Clark spoke:

And then we marched:

At the destination:

New York City Council member Bill de Blasio showed up:

Bono at the RNC

Bono, a non-partisan, who was recently seen at a Scissor Sisters concert, and fresh off a Bill O'Reilly appearance, was spotted at the Republican National Convention. When not rocking out to 'Take Your Mama,' or attending Republican events, Bono can be found naming songs.

Worm is Green tonight at Pianos

Iceland's Worm is Green play their first US show tonight at Pianos.
"Worm Is Green started as the bedroom electronica project of Arni Asgeirsson, who soon enlisted longtime friends from his hometown of Akranes, Iceland (population 5,500) to flesh out his melodic soundscapes. Solidifying into a group, Worm Is Green began recording the songs that would become Automagic, released overseas last year on Iceland's Thule Musik (home of Mum and The Funerals) and now available in the U.S. on The Arena Rock Recording Co."

If you want to listen, Worm is Green have a whole bunch of MP3s posted at their website.
Tonight's show is presented by KEXP.org and Culottes and Clarions.
Posted times and openers:
