Onelinedrawing & Gratitude Torrents

My friend John posted two Onelinedrawing "bootlegs" I recorded, on Sharing the Groove. They were originally posted in March when I recorded them, but have been reseeded for those who missed them then.
The March 8th, 2004 recording was actually a presentation Jonah gave at the NYC Apple Store as part of their Made on a Mac series (in the same theater I sat in 2 days ago for the photobloggers event).
The March 9th, 2004 recording is Jonah as Onelinedrawing (with Ian Love of Cardia) at CBGB.
These two combined performances included a preview of the last Onelinedrawing album, Volunteers, which came out shortly thereafter.
Also on Sharing The Groove right now is Gratitude's first ever live performance - September 28th, 2004 in Orangevale, CA. (Gratitude being Jonah Matranga's latest project). I'm pretty excited to hear this one.

Schwarzenneger Signs Anti-Foie Gras Bill Into Law

New York and California are the only places in the United States where Foie Gras is produced. Thanks to this new bill, New York is the only one left.
"Foie gras is produced by force-feeding ducks or geese up to three times per day by prying open their bills, shoving long, inflexible pipes down their throats, and pumping several pounds of feed into each bird's stomach. The process causes the birds' livers, which are eventually sold as foie gras, to become diseased and swell to up to 10 times their normal size. Some birds experience ripped-open necks and ruptured internal organs because of the intense pressure of the forced feeding. Workers are often given monetary rewards just for not "bursting" birds. The stress and pain frequently result in the birds' becoming unable to walk and being reduced to propelling themselves by pushing with their wings. "

Razorlight opening, Gratitude not, Jimmy Eats World Presale today

The Ticketweb presale for Jimmy Eats World at Webster Hall on November 8th starts at 4pm (EST) today. (Will this one really sell out that fast?)
Password: robc
The hyped up band from the UK, Razorlight, is opening.
Unfortunately, a band called Recover is also opening. I won't be going to this show, but I would have if Gratitude was opening. Gratitude finishes the tour with Jimmy Eats World and Razorlight in Pittshburgh, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
Jimmy Eats World also plays Warsaw in Brooklyn on October 15th. Tickets are already on sale for that.

White Magic @ Bowery Ballroom - Pics & (Fiery Furnaces) Review

White Magic opened for The Fiery Furnaces on Saturday (25 September 2004). I wasn't too impressed.
Filter Magazine published a bad review of the whole show.
I think the reviewer was right on with this comment:
"Opening act, New York’s own White Magic, had no idea who they were. Their lead singer looked about as happy to be onstage as I was happy to see my newly crimson pillow the morning after getting my wisdom teeth pulled – and that’s not too happy"
BUT I'm "dumbfounded" with the reviewer's opinion of The Fiery Furnaces. He writes:
"But what I ended up getting at this concert was a dumbfounding, counterintuitive mess. I’m still scratching my head at their performance – essentially one long medley, with few cohesive songs actually being played."
"After an uninspired encore, the medley was over. And I left the bordering-on-condescending show along with a mass of similarly disappointed fans."
Strange that he failed to mention the 5 minute pause in their set when Matt broke a guitar string. The crowd didn't stop clapping the entire time. They couldn't. They were blown away by what had they just heard. I wonder if those are the dissapointed fans he's referring to.
And by the way Chris, you really should check out their first album.
Here's a review more in line with what I saw.

Keane @ Irving Plaza
I just got back from the Keane show at Irving Plaza, but I didn't go in. Too many shows in a row. Too many shows coming up. Too much demand for my 4 tickets outside Irving Plaza.

Oasis Sanctuary Benefit @ 2 Rivers - pics

The benefit for Oasis Sanctuary (28 September 2004 @ 2 Rivers), though a bit unorganized, turned out to be an interesting event. The crowd was split about 50/50 between animal activists & Playboy bunnies (and their entourage). They advertised that "two-legged bunnies" would be in attendance. I didn't quite know what that meant till I got there.
Edie Falco showed up for a few minutes and donated some autographed memorabilia for the raffle. Peter Max also donated a bunch of paintings and prints.

The Playboy Bunnies were on hand to help raise money for Eddie Lama and his amazing efforts. They were selling raffle tickets, posing for polaroids, and mixing it up a bit.

Eddie poses with the girls.

You can catch this girl (shown holding the Marc Jacobs boots she won in the raffle) in the November issue of Playboy:
