Johnny Ramone died today. That really sux. (see last post)
Today is Rosh Hashana, and I'm not in temple. That would make about 15 years in a row. I wasn't in Temple last night either when I saw Sarah Silverman and Todd Barry at Ars Nova, and then Modest Mouse at Webster Hall. The truth is, I never go to temple except for weddings, bar mitzvahs, and funerals.
I think Sarah Silverman purposely scheduled her show on the holiday to add to her shock value - the Jewish comedian working on the high holy day. She was truly shocking (yawn). I was excited to see Todd Barry open, but unfortunately I had seen him do almost every joke before (at Southpaw). I was thinking of checking him out at Pianos, but now I definitely won't.
The new Arcade Fire album really is that good. I officialy can't stop listening. Tiny Mix Tapes has jumped in with a perfect rating too. (more on arcade fire)
Pitchfork trashed Radio 4 yesterday. Not as bad as Har Mar Superstar today though.
If you're like me, and not in Temple to hear the Shofar, here's an alternative:
Colin Meloy of the Decemberists blowing the Shofar.
And if you want to here it done correctly, go here, and if you want to hear a nice sound coming out of it, try this mp3.
