The Arcade Fire - Funeral
Pitchfork handed it's highest rating of the year today to The Arcade Fire's new album, Funeral. With an almost perfect score of 9.7, the album has taken the gold away from my one of my own personal favorites of the year: Blueberry Boat by The Fiery Furnaces. The Fiery Furnaces are going to have to live with second best, and their measly score of 9.6.
So what's up with The Arcade Fire? They've got six members, from Canada, and you may have seen them in NYC in March at both Knitting Factory and Mercury Lounge, and again in June at Knitting Factory. Their live shows are legendary, they were recently signed to Merge Records (on which 'Funeral' is their debut), and Pitchfork isn't the only one raving about this release.
If you haven't seen them yet (like me), you have another chance real soon. On 10/15 they'll be playing Mercury Lounge for CMJ, and then they're back on 11/11 at Bowery Ballroom with the Hidden Cameras.
Other U.S. dates:
11/12 - Boston
11/13 - Ithaca
11/14 - Philadelphia
11/15 - Pittsburgh
11/26 - Chicago
