Vegan Fashions | Moo Shoes in the NY Times

'MooShoes, where the best sellers include pointy-toed microfiber dress shoes ($85) and canvas bags, is one in an expanding roster of shops catering to people who, from motives of conscience or style, have banned animal products from their diets and, often, their wardrobes as well.'
'Vegan products are finding takers not only among the roughly six million Americans who call themselves vegetarians, but also among shoppers attracted to prices that are often 60 percent to 75 percent lower than leather. A spike in demand prompted Earth Shoes to introduce some 15 vegan styles this year.'

I'm Trying Not To Talk About The Election
Go read Nate (winneroftheSAT)'s Positively Opposite Review - Election 2004!
winneroftheSAT was previously seen on this blog when I asked for your help in saving his cat. I should of finished that story. It was in fact all made up from the sick and twisted, genius, mind of Nate. The cat is alive and well and posting on Catster.
Speaking of stories I need to finish, the Kennedys will not be moving to Park Slope.
Park Slope will not get the Kennedys, but it will get "Queer Eye for the Biz Guy," a new show that will remake a Park Slope business, Microchip Cafe, in it's first episode.

Chin Up Chin Up | Get Ready for the Hype

Now that you can't imagine listening to Arcade Fire's Funeral for another minute, and their debut EP has even worn thin, I bring to you Chin Up Chin Up. CUCU's debut album, We Should Never Have Lived Like We Were Skyscrapers, may be the new flavor of the month. Released on October 26th, there's already a lot of buzz. It's selling like hotcakes over at Insound.
Chin Up Chin Up are from Chicago and their bassist recently passed away. There is a foundation in his name (RIP). Their debut EP, which you may have missed, came out on Brooklyn's 'Record Label,' and their new one is on Flameshovel Records (home of The Natural History, Low Skies and Joan of Arse). Both albums are available at Insound. Use the coupon code chinup for 15% off your order until Nov. 9th.
They've been compared to Modest Mouse, Pinback, Slint, Joy Division, Pavement, a John Hughes movie soundtrack, Versus, Aden, True Love Always, Sea and Cake, !!!, Onelinedrawing, Jet By Day, the And/Ors, American Analog Set, and Les Savy Fav. Confused? Their members are/were in Tekulvi, Nymb, and Punjab.
Those in NYC can catch them November 10th at Rothko (hopefully) (one night before The Arcade Fire at Bowery Ballroom). You may have seen them recently at the Delancey for CMJ. Those elsewhere can check out all their tour dates. There are a lot of them coming up.

NYC Halloween Parade 2004 | Pics
Was it the 2004 NYC Halloween parade, or the RNC protest? It was hard to tell the difference this year. Marching alongside Ipods, superheroes, and sexy gals, were Billionaires for Bush, The Missle Dick Chicks, The Pink Ladies, Axis of Eve, and countless other political protesters. Many of them were dressed as Bush. None were voting for him.

(More Popular Than the ) NYC Halloween Parade 2004

Before the parade began, this bridge, groom and I, were walking the same way down 6th ave (from West 4th to Spring). My guess is that they appear in more pictures than anyone else at the parade. Every few steps they politely stopped to pose again.

NYC Haunted House Disappointment
Halloween was already going to suck. I had the unfortunate luck of having to move to a new apartment by November 1st. I spent the entire weekend packing and moving. I had no time to dress up this year, but I did take a little time on Friday night to run in to the city for the Haunted House on the Lower East Side. The description sounded too good to pass up.
It opened at 7 pm. I tried to get there by 6:30, but didn't get there till 8. There was already a line about a block long.

I asked a haunted employee how long the wait was. He said I would be on my way home in an hour (line, haunted house and all). I didn't really have that much time, but I waited anyway. It took a little over an hour to get to the door. Not too bad. I was about five people from going in. That's when another haunted employee walked out of the door I was about to go in.
He yelled, "People! There is an hour and a half wait from here! Please consider that before going in!"
"We're never getting all these people in here tonight," he whispered to another employee.

The hour had just turned into 2.5. In classic Simpsons fashion, the line you could see outside was less than half the total wait, and the first guy had completely lied. I went in the door anyway. Once in, you got a ticket and waited for your number to be called. In the meantime, you could buy drinks at their bar while you were bored out of your mind waiting for the 5 minute haunted tour.

I saw someone come out. I asked them if it was worth it ($20 a person plus the wait). They told me to save my money and go get some pizza...so I did (minus the pizza part).

Franz Ferdinand to play Jersey Arena

K-Rock is in the process of announcing the bands playing Claus Fest at Continental Airlines Arena in NJ on December 3rd. So far... Franz Ferdinand, Jimmy Eats World, and Papa Roach. Three more bands to announce.
UPDATE:
band 4: Korn
band 5: Chevelle
band 6: Velvet Revolver
If you have a 92.3 Free Card, you can get tickets on Friday. If you don't, you have to wait till Saturday. Comparatively speaking, tickets are cheap for a show of this size...about $50 for floor seats.
