Listen to Broken Social Scene
before I go to bed...
Watch Broken Social Scene perform "7/4" on ZeD.
Stream 'You Forgot it In People,' Broken Social Scene's acclaimed album, in Real Audio.
The female singer in Broken Social Scene (at least for the line-up they currently have in NY) is Emily Haines (see pic in my last post) from the band Metric.
Watch a bunch of Metric Videos here.
Jason Collett, "the hunky one from Broken Social Scene," also plays solo.
Do Make Say Think is also part of the BSS crew.

Admit it - you wish you were Canadian.
I won't even begin to tell you the type of shows we get up North whenever BSS or Arcade Fire play up here...

it should be illegal for bands to name songs after their time signature.

Were we at the same show? I thought the evening was a complete and total disaster. I seriously thought the lead singer (whatever his name) was gonna storm off and go cry in the corner, what with the hissy fit he was throwing all night. Did this not detract from the show for you?

I thought it was a great show, wouldn't trade it for another this year. It was fair for him to be a little upset considering his guitar arrived in half from the European flight and his keyboard died mid-set. I wouldn't describe his reaction as a hissy fit. Maybe the equipment problem disrupted the flow of the show, but what can you do...

I'm seeing BSS for the first time on Wednesday. So excited!
The Arts and Crafts site has a cool "family tree" for the BSS-related projects:

The technical difficulties didn't distract me. I actually thought that made it more interesting. When stuff like that happens, you get to see the band members improvise and hear them speak a little. Makes them seem more human.
A disaster? I wouldn't even come close to saying that. Besides the pause (intermission) when the keyboard broke, and the restart on the last song, what made it a disaster? The main singer guy you're referring too was a little cranky, but that didn't bother me.
It's not their fault the keyboard broke, and if it hadn't, we wouldn't have heard the story about the guitar breaking the same day. Like James said, they had reason to be upset, and I thought they handled it pretty well. Besides the technical difficulties and the broken guitar, they had just come from Europe (6 hour time difference) on a 6 hour (uncomfortable) flight after living out of hotels and foreign restaurants. Plus, they manage to travel in a pack of at least 11 people and get along. Considering all of that, I think they pulled off a great show, and their clothes were even perfectly pressed!
Admittedly, a show without distractions is good also, so Wednesday should hopefully be a different kind of spectacular. Tonight even. Not sure how their sound will come across in a place as large as Hammerstein, but I’ll let you know.
Dave - I don't necessarily wish I was Canadian, but I do love your music.

Glad to hear it was a good show. BSS is always a treat to see. Althought I can't see them playing together much longer. As you said earlier, it is a group of 11, most do their own things too. And it's always better to go out on top, leaving people wanting more.
What? We've got free health care and enough cowbell's in our rock to make anyone immigrate! :)

Shit - I forgot. Check out THE SOURKEYS. Ford Plant's latest great band to be.
Trust me on this one... I went to high school with a couple of the guys and they're getting rave reviews around here.
