Angela McCluskey @ Fez, NYC | Pics
CRAIG WEDREN, ANGELA MCCLUSKEY, & CYNDI LAUPER

Last Night's (January 19th, 2005) Angela McCluskey concert at Fez in NYC was not only an extraordinary, intimate performance, it was filled with special surprises that made it even more unforgettable. Joining Angela on stage for a duet was Craig Wedren of Shutter to Think and Baby. For the last song of the two song encore, Angela called Craig back on stage, along with her good friend Cyndi Lauper who was also sitting in the audience. As you can tell by the pictures, they sang a song together using lyrics they had written down ahead of time.
ANGELA MCCLUSKEY, & BAND

Once again, Craig Wedren graces me with his presence on stage. As noted in my Best Shows of 2004 post, Craig seems to be everywhere, whether it be because Baby is on the bill, or he's playing as a member of Bright Eyes. Don't forget to catch him during his residency at Pianos this month.
It's actually not surprising that Craig, who recently played on the same bill as Angela at Mercury Lounge, would appear at an Angela McCluskey show in 2005. She (along with Billy Corgan, Liz Phair, Jeff Buckley, and others) provided vocals on Shudder To Think's 1998 movie soundtrack album, First Love, Last Rites. Angela's album, The Things We Do, was produced by Nathan Larson, another former member of Shutter to Think.
I'm not sure how long Angela and Cyndi Lauper have been "best mates," but musically they've got some connections too. Angela's old band was called Wild Colonials, and Cyndi sang on their song called 'If By Chance.' You can catch Cyndi with Sandra Bernhard, and Nancy Sinatra at another tsunami benefit at Crobar in NYC on January 27th, 2005.
CRAIG WEDREN & ANGELA MCCLUSKEY

As far as I can tell, Angela's scheduled show at Fez next week is cancelled, but you can see her TONIGHT (January 20th, 2005) with David Byrne, Lou Reed, and Moby at the Tsunami Benefit Concert in NYC.
