M.I.A. When Pitchfork released their review of M.I.A./Diplo, Piracy Funds Terrorism album last year, I added the CD to the to-do list in the back of my mind. When Tale of Two Cities released their list of favorites for 2004, I made a small mental note to do my research. Then when Tale of Two Cities alerted us to the M.I.A. show at Knitting Factory in NYC on Feb. 3rd, I realized I've got to catch up quick.

Rather than let my procrastination cause you to miss out, here's your warning. These tickets will probably sell out.

Nick Catchdubs, who's also playing the show, provides more M.I.A. info.

Rather than link you directly to the spot where you can download the ENTIRE ALBUM, I'll link you to someone who will link you to the ENTIRE ALBUM.

More buzz at Stylus, The Village Voice, Sonic Laundry, One Louder, Central Village, and Chicagomuzik

This must have been the one time where somebody read a music recommendation I wrote and DIDN'T ruthlessly make fun of me.

i'm sure they're referring to her ties to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE); they're fighting the indigenous Sinhalese of Sri Lanka and they're considered a terrorist group.

the LTTE used a suicide bomber to assassinate the prime minister of india in '91-- MIA's father, whom she named her album "arular" after, was a founding member of the LTTE. more here:
