You remember this case? The one where the parents were prosecuted for killing their baby by not feeding it properly. The case that caused people to stereotype vegans as crazy freaks that kill babies? The case where the supposed vegans fed their child Cod Liver Oil? (vegans don't use fish products) The case that had people confusing child abuse with veganism?

Well it looks like it wasn't child abuse after all.

The one that had to do with the cod liver oil was with a Brooklyn couple.

I never heard of the case that you linked to though. I am dreading for when my daughter starts school. I know there are going to be some very nosey parents and teachers inquiring about the health of our daughter because of what we choose not to eat.

I remember this case well. I hope they are not found guilty. Amazing how our society can be ignorant of those who don't follow the SAD.

If these parents are so "natural", why weren't they breastfeeding their baby... Hmmmm kind of a no-brainer. Anyone feeding a baby at 5 months on almond milk and food is an ignorant idiot and deserves to go to jail. It does not take much effort to find out how to keep your baby healthy via veganism or not.

id like to know more about all of these cases, its a shame there doesnt seem to be any substansial quality reporting on any of these instances. I find it hard to make informed opinions and judgements based on the extremely biased sources that were presented with. Underlying themes in "SHOCK CHILD VEGAN DEATH" stories seem to be feeding a child on vegan milk substitutes, which is pretty odd as i dont use non-dairy milks to substitute the nutritional value of dairy milk (i get this from various other soruces) but to substitute the PRACTICAL uses for dairy milk to which we have become accustomed - to go in hot drinks or poured on cereal etc. The nutritional values and benefits of - for instance - soya milk are different to that of dairy milk and will get different results. To substitute baby milk for that is simply ill-informed, and i doubt the parents intended to cause such harm.

The "defect" the parents cite is a severely undersized thymus gland. From the British Journal of Nutrition: "Malnutrition, secondary to deficiency in intake of proteins, minerals or vitamins, consistently results in changes in the thymus. This organ undergoes a severe atrophy..."

Glad if your mind has been set at ease, though.
