Bon Jovi, Queen Latifah, Save the Music
The VH1 Save the Music Foundation donated $1 million worth of new instruments to 41 city schools and designated April 11 for a "star-studded concert in the Big Apple."
"Music education is an important part of growing up - it teaches discipline, creativity and appreciation of the arts," said Mayor Bloomberg, who announced the gift at Public School 57 in Harlem.
The annual benefit returns to the Beacon Theatre, where it originated in 1998. Queen Latifah, Bon Jovi, Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20, John Legend, Joss Stone and others will perform. Proceeds help restore music programs at schools across the country. The concert will be taped on April 11 and shown on April 17. The concert will be the final event of the "VH1 Save The Music Week" from April 4 - April 11.
