First and foremost, this post was motivated by a beautiful new Joanna Newsom streaming performance and interview at KCRW. You have to listen to the interview. so good. so cute. When you're done with that, here's another stream in Dutch (via fan site).
Then there was Joanna's recent network television debut on the Jimmy Kimmell show. Again. so good, and so lucky I was to catch it. Although listed on two blogs I read, I had no idea it was going to be on when I got from Antony and CocoRosie at Bowery Ballroom. I leave the TV on for my dog, and coincidentally it was turned to the right station and was about to start right when I got home. A perfect ending to that night.
Does anyone have a video of it, or know where to download? I can't find one, but here are some photos.
Third up is this link from Largeheated Boy: photos, audio and video from her Noicepop performance on Feb. 26th, 2005 in San Francisco. Here's a review from that show, and an article published before the show.
Next comes the news of her upcoming (mostly European) tour dates, including the show she's playing as I write this just six hours away at the Andy Warhol museum in Pittsburgh. Pitchfork has the info. Most dates are with Six Organs of Admittance who's playing in NYC tonight. Missing that one too.
News item #5 explains the picture you see above. It's Joanna Newson in the new issue of Fader magazine. Yes, I mean the paper kind that you have to pay for like you used to before the Internet came along. And there's three major reasons to pay for it this month. 1: Joanna 2: Antony 3: Eleanor Friedberger (Fiery Furnaces). Stories on all of them and more. (and more includes writing by Nick Catchdubs). The photo was snagged from Fader's related blog entry, and click here for another scan from the issue.
UPDATE: I just posted the lossless (FLAC) version of the Joanna Newsom show at Mercury Lounge last year at the Trader's Den

BONUS
In the KCRW interview, Joanna cites both Hazel Dickens and Texas Gladden as influences, so for those interested....
Learn more about Hazel Dickens at All Music and listen here.
Read about Texas Gladden here and stream some samples here.
