Webster Hall Evacuated | Building Sturdy?
Wow. While we're on the subject of music venues, Gothamist reported today (via Newsday) that Webster Hall was evacuated Saturday night during a New Found Glory concert for fear that the building was going to collapse. Maybe New York magazine should rename their award to "Best Venue to see a band just after it hits the basement floor."
According to Newsday, "City and fire officials said they have no reason to be concerned about the safety of the East Village nightclub where about 800 people were removed Saturday night."
Supposedly it was the dancing that was made the ceiling buckle, so I think I should be safe for the Fiery Furnaces show in two weeks and I definitely won't come to any harm during the two sold out Shins shows that I don't have tickets for. I'm just worried for the Reverend Horton Heat/Supersuckers/Murphy's Law fans. I'll definitely pass on that one.
