FannyPack : The Streetrope Invasion | M.I.A.

"Fannypack are like M.I.A., who hops her own scotch and shakes her own jumprope, and they're in a similar predicament, which is that they don't quite fit pre-existing genres, dance or hip-hop, so they'll have to do what Ben Edmonds said the New York Dolls needed to do in 1973: create their own audience."

Brooklyn booty brats snatch bills and invite you to suck up, eat a Big Mac, and do it now

M.I.A. @ S.O.B's: Tickets are on sale (Again)

Fannypack's new album drops on May 10th.

Who is Playing Siren Fest? | Not at Coachella

Siren Festival 2004
The Siren Festival

One thing you almost never hear me talk about is Coachella (happening as we speak in California). When I make the move to full-time music blogging, I'll write more about outdoor festivals on the other side of the country that I'm not even attending.

Strangely, there is a phenomenon among fellow NY music nut-jobs like myself to make the yearly exodus to Mecca, I mean Coachella. NYC attendees include Central Village, I Rock I Roll, and Productshop. I suppose it's as good an excuse as any for a vacation.

In the meantime, I'll stick to the festivals happening in Brooklyn. One such festival is happening in Coney Island for free on July 16th. And since I have nothing better to think about, I sit and wonder, "Who is going to play Siren Festival this year?"

The first confirmation is in. No offense to this band, but it's anti-climatic. Daily Refill reports that VHS or Beta is in fact on the bill for Siren.

I started a rumor a few weeks ago that Arcade Fire might be playing the show. So far nothing has proven it wrong.

1) You will not find The Arcade Fire on the lineup for Pitchfork's Intonation Festival (happening the same weekend). You will find The Decemberists, Fiery Furnaces, The Wrens, Broken Social Scene, The Go! Team, Will Oldham, and others that must not be playing Siren.

2) If you take a look at The Arcade Fire's upcoming tour dates, you will see that they are playing Lollapalooza on July 24th, but that July 16th is completely free.

What will happen if The Arcade Fire play Siren? It will be too crowded (and potentially miserable for those that didn't wait for hours to get good spots) by the time the headliners go on like every year of course!

Kimya Dawson Touring All Over the Place

Right now, Anti-Folk star Kimya Dawson is in Florida. On Saturday May 14th, she plays in Brooklyn. On June 14th, she'll be back in NYC again. See all the tour details here.

Chart Attack says that Kimya likes fellow anti-folkster Regina Spektor.

Regina Spektor is touring with Keane.

Kimya Dawson and Adam Green played together in the Moldy Peaches. Only Magazine says that Adam is the new David Hasselhof.

The Calgary Sun points out that Regina Spektor sounds more like Tori Amos than the Moldy Peaches.

Tori Amos recently performed for KEXP in NYC.

Regina Spektor opening for Keane | Video

For every post I make on this site, there are about 10 more I never get to. Someone I love, but have yet to really post about is Regina Spektor. Somewhat incorrectly lumped into the anti-folk scene, and most famous for singing and touring with the Strokes, she's an irresistibly cute (though many claim it's an act - see future post) singer songwriter with great live shows and albums. I was at her recent 2.5 hour show at Bowery Ballroom and was blown away. I wrote a really long review of it too, but it's sitting unfinished in my to-do pile. I like her new major-label debut album too.

All that out of the way, I was a little disappointed to find out that she's opening for Keane on their upcoming tour. In NYC, that's at Radio City Music Hall. My disappointment stems from that fact that I would love to see her at Radio City, but have very little interest in seeing Keane in the same venue (or at all). If she was headlining, I would be less upset.

(Keane disclaimer: I did enjoy Keane's album for a bit of time last year. I almost saw them live three times, but never have)

Regina has a new video you can check out right here:

Annie Doesn't Read Stereogum or Fluxblog (but should)

Arjan: Your songs "Chewing Gum" and "Heartbeat" became really popular in the U.S. thanks to the support of bloggers. How do you feel about that?

Annie: The support I have gotten is unbelievable. I never thought that album would reach the U.S. To me my sound is very European.

Arjan: Do you ever read popular music blogs like Fluxblog or Stereogum that initially picked up your music?

Annie: No, I haven't. But I probably should. I read Pitchfork quite often.

U2 performing | Good Morning America Concert Series

U2 will perform for free (most likely not in Bryant Park) (maybe not even) in NYC for Good Morning America on May 20th (7am or something like that). Unlike the rest of the Good Morning America shows, U2 will (probably) not be in Brryant Park (a larger location will be announced - possibly taped from a stop on their Vertigo tour). Three of the songs will air on TV that day, with two more airing the next day (3+2 = they'll play at least 5 songs).

The U2 show is the kick-off for the summer Good Morning America Concert Series. Here's the full schedule (of shows that are definitely happening in Bryant Park in NYC):

May 27 — Rascal Flatts
June 3 — Shakira
June 10 — Santana
June 17 — Ringo Starr
June 24 — Jesse McCartney
July 1 — Patti LaBelle
July 8 — Missy Elliott
July 15 — Kayne West
July 22 — Fantasia
July 29 — Clay Aiken
August 5 — Jessica Simpson
August 12 — Keith Urban
August 19 — Hilary Duff
August 26 — Avril Lavigne
* Final Concert Date and Talent —TBD
**Talent subject to change.

Anti-Folk | The Rock Snob's Definition

Anti-Folk: Hazily defined genre originally inhabited by young white tenement squatters who combined folk and punk sensibilities, but more recently embodied by LO-FI pretend rustics Will Oldham and Bill Callahan, who under their aliases (Palace and Bonnie "Prince" Billy for Oldham, Smog for Callahan), thrum acoustic guitars and warble ominous murder-ballad lyrics in the style of the authentic twenties hayseeds heard on Harry Smith's ANTHOLOGY OF AMERICAN FOLK MUSIC. The anti-folk movement (which took it's name from English acousti-punk Billy Bragg's description of his own sound) traces its origins to a scroungy eighties Lower East Side scene that spawned, among others, Beck, Michelle Shocked, Cindy Lee Berryhill, and Ani DiFranco.

Definition from the Rock Snob's Dictionary.

After recently winning 'picture of the week' on SPIN.com, SPIN was nice enough to invite me to Tuesday night's 'SpinHouse Live' performance by the Futureheads. iPod Stolen | Fired from the Fader

Tricia Romano reports...

"Getting your iPod stolen sucks. Talking about getting your iPod stolen in The New York Times and then getting fired sucks more. In a March 30 story about iPod thieves, ELLIOT ARONOW, an editorial assistant at The Fader magazine, which is owned by marketing company Cornerstone Promotions, said, "All the value was really in the music. The thing itself was just a stupid device." Shortly thereafter, he found himself out of a job."

Decemberists Charity Auction (again)

"In response to the band’s recent multi-thousand dollar loss of precious musical equipment, a few kind people have put together this Benefit Auction on eBay to help defray the cost of keeping the band in instruments. Among the items to be auctioned are several original Carson Ellis watercolors of a few of the stolen items, a Craig Thompson (of Blankets fame) original drawing depicting the procession of the Infanta, several Barger Rothery Academy badges (as seen in the ‘Sixteen Military Wives’ video), and many, many more cool bits of arcana."

Annie Update

Arjan posted a link to a new official Annie remix. (see an old post of mine for more remixes)

Fader magazine interviewed Annie while she was in NYC. They posted the video.

------

When I posted the photos of the Annie show at Tribeca Grand, I didn't really say much. I did say I liked it, and I did. I should have also mentioned I had very low expectations, and the whole thing was a bit akward. These three quotes say what I'm thinking better than me...

"all things considered i didn't think it was awful at all. it was like her fifth gig, she's trying to transfer a studiomagic record into a passable live performance (and she will at some point, first thing she needs to do is get the vocal mix right and, yikes, sing louder), the band's (opl bastards) a bit sessiony because hey, they live in finland and don't get to rehearse with her that much, i think they're happy just to have these songs down. also i saw the sirius show on tuesday, and it was really dreadful (she performed in a studio fishbowl, everyone else had to stand outside the studio and listen), so my expectations weren't too high."

"They're CERTAINLY not a live band per se and there were all sorts of technical errors, but Annie herself was really charming and the songs, performed live, really held up for me.
"Wedding" in particular (unreleased and I want a copy NOW NOW NOW) was supergood, '1999'-era Prince and a definite future hit. I bounced when people started screaming "HEARTBEEEEEEEEEEAT!" as I'm not a fan of that cut, but I definitely enjoyed the show."

"I thought it was pretty good considering that they don't perform very often. The vocal mix was too low, but whatever. "Chewing Gum" and "The Wedding" were the highlights for sure - that's when the band sounded most confident, hitting upon a kinda mid-period Talking Heads + Kylie sort of sound. Very promising. Within a year or so, they should be pretty great, but for now it was definitely above average."

------

And then there's this: "ANNIE (FROM NORWAY), PLEASE WHISK ME AWAY TO YOUR UTOPIAN SCANDINAVIAN PARADISE LAND WHERE WE WILL FEAST ON ELK MEAT AND MEAD OR WHATEVER YOU PEOPLE EAT AND DRINK THERE AND BE HAPPY TOGETHER FOREVER PLEASE THANKS."

And Coolfer sums up some more rewiews

On the Closing of EasyTree & Torrent Sites

On April 6th, I posted a link to three Joanna Newsom torrents hosted on easytree.org. A few hours later, the links were dead. Largehearted boy reported his shock at the missing site. A message on easytree said they shut down for legal reasons.

The Village Voice reports...

"The word that went around the EZT community was that a European division of Universal Music had complained to Easytree's Internet service provider that the site was hosting an illicit Nirvana video (which it wasn't) and threatened to sue. Whereupon the ISP got cold feet; that's why they call it a chilling effect.

File traders bounced right back. Within days, they'd migrated to the very similar dimeadozen.org,..."

Scalpers go High Tech

"For hot tours like Springsteen, U2 and Nine Inch Nails -- and, soon, Paul McCartney and the Rolling Stones -- professional ticket brokers use a combination of manpower and technology to swoop in and commandeer hundreds of seats at a time. As of Monday afternoon, April 11th, ticketsnow.com was selling 292 seats to Springsteen's New Jersey show -- almost nine percent of the 3,300 seats that went on sale to the public -- with some going for as much as $2,565 apiece."

No matter how you feel about leaks, it's hard to resist listening to the song TTIKTDA posted for download. You'll notice a Cloud Room demo song there too. As noted in my Gothamist post yesterday, people are talking about this band. Unfortunately I missed their free show at Knitting Factory last night in favor of the last of three Shins shows at Webster Hall. Actually it wasn't unfortunate. The Shins were great. I have pictures to post, but bed is calling. Read reviews of Sunday night's show at One Louder, Central Village, and Daily Refill. My last post had a link to some pictures and an animated video.

Dredg Touring & New Album

"With a body built on growling, hard-hitting, straight-up rock, and incorporating elements of a ?-esque pop, operatic vocals, haunting piano accompanyment, celtic lilts, tibetan bowls, and scratchy voice-over samples, Dredg at times embodies the energy of punkrock and still posesses the powerful, graceful makings of a movie score."

Eluding the "Corporate Ogre" | Calvin Johnson

"Let's face it, Modest Mouse has traveled a long way from home-produced cassette recordings to Grammy nominations, and the white-belt-clad congregation of former K acts like the Make Up has long since moved on to bigger and better fads. Indie rock, for better or for worse, has become more widely accessible than ever before. And today, whether Johnson Likes it or not, the indie gospel is spread through popular movie soundtracks and blurbs in Rolling Stone, a far cry from the intimate network of cut 'n' paste fanzines that once sustained it."

RIP Bryan Ottoson of American Head Charge

Bryan Ottoson of American Head Charge was found dead on his tour bus. Yahoo wins the award for most sensitive headline ever: "Mudvayne Cancels Show Following Death Of Member Of Opening Act." American Head Charge was one of the opening acts on the current Mudvayne & Life of Agony tour.

Mudvayne also made headlines yesterday when they debuted ahead of 50 Cent on the Billboard 200 chart.

Grime & Twisted Sister

The Village Voice chimes in on the grime phenomenon.

Saturday night is the first night of the Jewish holiday, Passover. Dee Snider and JJ French of Twisted Sister are celebrating with Scott Ian of Anthrax, live on VH1.

Dizzee Rascal is a popular male Grime artist. He's on tour, and plays Irving Plaza in NYC Saturday night

I saw Twisted Sister perform as Bent Brother at (the now closed) Lamour in Brooklyn (1 or 2 years ago - I actually have pictures somewhere.)

Pitchfork defines Grime

Lady Sovereign is a popular female Grime artist. Fluxblog's MP3 post today has a Lady Sovereign remix, and a mashup of The Rapture's Sister Savior with Mobb Deep's Got it Twisted ("Twisted Sister") (actually no relation to the Dee Snider fronted band)

The Bravery Diss (Headliner) Duran Duran

"After the Bravery and the Killers feuded about who influenced who, there's seems to be another controversy brewing that involves the Bravery. Duran Duran announced last week that the Bravery will be opening for them in Birmingham on May 28.

But it appears the Bravery's Sam Endicott is not a big Duran Duran fan. In fact, he dislikes the band's music and does not appreciate the comparison with the '80s pop group."

Songs about the Subway | MP3s

I love the subway. I hate the subway. I think most New Yorkers share my sentiment. We love it until something happens. Then we hate it.

A day doesn't go by that I don't have at least one interesting (usually positive) experience on the subway. Sometimes they are really special. Last Sunday (April 10, 2005) I was on my way to see M. Ward and CocoRosie at Bowery Ballroom. There were about ten people in the subway car I chose. Three of them were playing banjos. Singing and harmonica-playing followed. A group of kids boarded the train a stop later. They started laughing, square-dancing, and creating beats with their feet. Everyone in the car clapped after every song. This lasted a full six stops before the guys from Brooklyn-based Banjorama exited the train (on the way to a gig I think).

It's not hard to believe that multiple artists sing about the NYC subway system. MP3 blog Locus St posted some songs for download that fit that description. The collection includes Duke Ellington, Le Tigre, The Last Poets, New York Dolls, and Tom Waits.

The Game was a member of 50 Cent's G-Unit posse. Then The Game released his own critically acclaimed (ok, not all critics) album featuring 50 Cent on some tracks. Then 50 said he hates the Game, and a shooting occurs. Then 50's album is released. Then 50 and Game make up. Meanwhile, Brian "Head" Welch quits Korn after finding God. Matisyahu @ Irving Plaza, NYC | Pics

Matisyahu @ Irving Plaza

When someone first offered me two free tickets to see a Hasidic Jew who sings reggae, I assumed it was a joke (see 2 Live Jews). Then I watched the video on Matisyahu's official site, and realized he was more than for real. He was actually really good.

So I went to the sold out show at Irving Plaza (capacity 1000?) Sunday night (April 17, 2005), and I realized that he was more than really good. If I do a 'top ten shows of the year,' this one has a serious shot at making the list. And where have I been? There were more people looking for extra tickets than outside The Arcade Fire. There were more people dancing than Bloc Party. There were more people crowd surfing than at Mudvayne.

Matisiyahu raps better than M.I.A., sings better than Annie, and is even more inspirational than Kimya Dawson. And as far as reggae goes, he hangs with the best of them. If you don't believe me, look at the flyer for Carifest happening at Randall's Island in NYC on July 10th. (he beatboxes too)

Matisyahu @ Irving Plaza

Matisyahu's story is almost as interesting as his talent....

"A few days later at his home in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, Matisyahu discussed his unusual journey. Named Matthew Miller by his parents ("Matisyahu" roughly means "Matthew" in Hebrew), he grew up in White Plains, N.Y., in a Reconstructionist Jewish household.

"I've always wanted to sing," he said. "I participated in gospel choirs, performed in theater productions — anything that would enable me to sing." He left high school at 17 to follow the jam band Phish around the country.

He was already a big fan of reggae music, and he began performing in the parking lot outside of the concerts. He finished high school at an alternative program in Oregon, where he fell in with some musicians and began performing in concert. However, he left that when he returned east to study at Arts in Context, an undergraduate program at the New School for Social Research."

Save the Robots --> Guernica --> Live Music

Before I copy and paste the following story, I should state for the record that: I met David Lee Roth and John Norris, didn't meet Seal, and witnessed an obnoxiously drunk girl run for the door after being poisoned with Visine by a bartender (or so I thought)... all at Save the Robots circa 1994. That said...

Tricia Romano reports...

"East Village landmark club Guernica has been saved. SCOTT LONG, ROBERT JOHNSON, and JC SCRUGGS (all formerly of the Knitting Factory) have teamed up with former Wetlands GM CHARLEY RYAN to open the space once known as Save the Robots with more of a focus on live music. "It'll be the same eclectic mix you're getting at the Knitting Factory except there will be a lot more DJ stuff going on following shows and upstairs," says Johnson. Though the venue isn't christened yet they are aiming for a mid-May opening."

Thunderbirds are Now! Rock, Tour & Play Knitting Factory

Thunderbirds are now! Joey was all like "Did you know Thunderbirds are Now! are playing at Knitting Factory on May 12th? And I was all like "Well sorta, maybe...should I know about this?" And then Tiny Mix Tapes was all like "these guys are Detroit's newest sensation and they're touring all over the freakin place," and Pitchfork was like, "yeah, we'll give them an 8." I was like "hmmm." Splendid was all like "Give me these guys over the Futureheads or Bloc Party any day". So I went and got myself a copy of Justamustache. After hearing them for myself, I wondered why anyone would compare them to Bloc Party. (I'm thinking more Warped Tour than Coachella), and Soviet Panda was just like, "their live show is phenomenal," and I didn't really need convincing because I was already over at Ticketweb buying myself one of those $7.00 tickets. (Don't say I didn't warn you, and don't say I ended this post without mentioning Les Savy Fav once.)

Patti Smith: I have various thoughts on it. I have the Jackie Onassis spirit of preservation of our historic architecture. One of the things that has drawn so many people down to the Bowery area—the people living there and the housing and shops and all of the revitalization of that area—was CBGB.

Hiro Ballroom Racist? | (and the Bitter Blogger)

The Hiro Ballroom

The Bloc Party hating, M. Ward doubting, music critic bashing (ironic?) (who was later confronted by Amy Phillips), Columbia University going, 'I_AM_JAPAN,' won tickets to the Beck show at Hiro Ballroom...

"0715: They finally open the doors. We enter Hiro, and we get it. Asian themed. The stage is a horrible wooden facade, with a dragon spewing smoke from its eyes and mouth. Stereotypes abound. Innumberable paper lanterns. Nonsense Japanese script on the walls. Stereotypes abound. Red walls and faux-bamboo mezzanine. Stereotypes abound, albeit confused ones."

Jon Brion Playing Tonic

Jon Brion is playing two shows at Tonic on April 27th to coincide with the Tribeca Film Festival.

"Jon Brion has emerged as the most successful of a new crop of film composers who have strayed from the independent music flock. Brion boasts a pop aesthetic honed by his songwriting with The Grays and Jellyfish, as well as his production work with Aimee Mann and Fiona Apple, and his buoyant soundscapes-- often bubbling with enveloping orchestral strokes and theatrical wall-of-sound presentation-- have, most notably, contributed to the maudlin grandeur of film directors P.T. Anderson and Michel Gondry." - Pitchfork

"It's that very obsessive dedication and guaranteed quality that has made Brion somewhat of an industry legend. His tight-pinched hooks and broad lush strokes, his mastery of countless kooky instruments and his jaw-dropping creativity have racked an impressive resume. He has helped shape and define the careers of Aimee Mann and Fiona Apple and produced countless others, including Rhett Miller, the Eels and Rufus Wainright. Critically acclaimed movie director Paul Thomas Anderson also recruited Brion to oversee the soundtracks for his movies Magnolia and Punch Drunk Love." - Rolling Stone

Beck @ Hiro Ballroom

Beck announced he was playing a "secret" show at Hiro Ballroom in NYC on April 15th, 2005. He sent the info out via his mailing list - one day before tickets went on sale. Word spread across the Internet. Someone told me they even announced the ticket details on 92.3 KRock. It was on NME, Gawker, Yahoo, and every blog.

Beck @ Hiro Ballroom

I'd say there were at least 500 people there. Here's a sample of who was there, and how they got in:

me: Ticketweb, luck, & $25 + service charge
friend I saw there: snuck in by staff
Jann Wenner: Guestlist (walked in the same time as me)
Aziz: patience, determination, & $20
miss modernage: same as Aziz
the oh so quiet show: same as above I think

Beck @ Hiro Ballroom

One commenter summarized it this way:
"eveyone got in...even if you didnt have a ticket...if you didnt have a ticket it was 20 bucks...hahaha to everyone who payed more or even face value...and we got in before the show started with a great view of BECK!!!!"

Celebs rumored to be there: Daryl Hannah (who according to someone in the bathroom, was getting uncomfortably, publicly intimate with her boyfriend), Fabrizio of the Strokes, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jann Wenner (as noted above), and The Dandy Warhols.

Beck @ Hiro Ballroom

Keep reading for excerpts from the Craigslist ticket section (and the photos I took)

Beck @ Hiro Ballroom

"I have 2 tickets to the beck show on Friday night. Here is my offer. I need the exterior of my house painted or vinyl sided. If you could do this for me or arrange for a significant discount on professional services, the tickets are yours. References will be required."

Beck @ Hiro Ballroom

"If anyone was at the '98 jones beach show you know it was cool. how about one for 40$?"

Beck @ Hiro Ballroom

"i will pay 200 dollars to not go to the beck show because it appears that anyone that actually got tickets is a pathetic piece of shit. ie anyone that has 1 extra ticket. are you that obsene that you can not get one person you know to see beck with you? im talking directly to you 28 year old cute normal guy. learn how to get laid. just because the IT guy at your job introduced you to beck 4 years ago and arcade fire 4 months ago does not make you cool. you may have gotten tickets but you will always be a joke."

Beck @ Hiro Ballroom

"Hi, how about you if you have an extra Beck ticket,
I'll treat you to a nice sandwich and a cold bottle of Yoohoo!
Pretty please? Thanks."

Beck @ Hiro Ballroom

"PLEASE NEED 2 TIX
NAME YOUR PRICE
WE'LL CALL YOU DADDY"

Beck @ Hiro Ballroom

"I am merely looking for a Beck ticket to the Hiro show if at all possible... I have been a Beck fan since age 7. I realize there are a dearth of these postings, but it is worth trying, as he surpasses nearly everyone I have ever listened. I mean come on he said "too bad better bite the bullet hard son. I didn't have no teeth so I stole his gun"
I am willing to pay up to 80 dollars"

Beck @ Hiro Ballroom

"Me: Beck fan with a new mortgage and an newly uncertain employment future.
You: The world's richest hipster.
I got my ticket in the same way that you didn't get yours yesterday at 5PM.
As you know, there is tremendous demand for this show with no supply of tickets. So prices are going to be high. My price is $5,000.
I am not kidding.
Previous posts on this board have proposed that, in exchange for my ticket, I could hang out with Time Out New York's favorite young comedian, or I could set up an extraordinary tryst with nubile young women who will call me, "Daddy", or I could trade my ticket for a show with the guy from Pavement. Or I could sell it for $200.
Please.
Fifty $100 bills is preferred method of payment, but a bank check made out to cash is also acceptable.
I think I could persuade one other ticket holder to sell his at the same price. So ten G's for two.
Serious inquiries only. Flames will be ignored. This show is going to be fucking great. Touch my ass if you're qualified. Regards."

Beck @ Hiro Ballroom

"I'm DYING to go see Beck and like everyone else, Ticketweb fucked up my order. Anyone have 1 ticket? Name your price."

Beck @ Hiro Ballroom

Please please please
Pretty please with sugar coated candy tutti frutti sprinkles on top?

"I will buy you a few of those ridiculously overpriced Sapporos or Asahis or $5 bottled waters they sell in Hiro! Or a sushi roll from Matsuri next door which is super freakin good sushi.
I'm a Tried and true Beck fan, he is in my top 3! Is there is any way you can help me get in the show? I like totally love Beck. He so rocks my world."

Beck @ Hiro Ballroom

2 tickets for tonight at Hiro ballroom. Please e-mail me with offers

Beck @ Hiro Ballroom

To all of you would-be scalpers:
If you find that the market for four-figure Beck tickets is actually quite thin, let me know. I'm still willing to get gouged for a whole lot more than the $50 you spent for two tickets. Plus my sister and I actually want to go to the show. Thanks!

Beck @ Hiro Ballroom

"$300 for your 2 Beck tickets. Can meet you in manhattan."

Beck @ Hiro Ballroom

"I think another ticket-wanted poster echoed my sentiments: I'd love to see Beck tonight, but I can't afford $200 for a ticket. I'd be willing to pay up to $75, however, so if you have an extra ticket you're willing to part with for a non-usurious amount of money, please let me know!"

Beck @ Hiro Ballroom

"Willing to give up 2 BECK tix for hiro tonight, you must be female age 20 to 25 and be willing to perform oral sex for 1/2 hr in my car. must remove shirt and bra, your friend can be there for security. giving 2 tix e me "

Beck @ Hiro Ballroom

"Dying to see Jeff Beck at Hiro tonight ( I hope Rod Stewart sits in) - $500. Beck-ola motherfuckers! I'm an old-time rocker. I like my whiskey brown and my women browner? I'm just looking for a chance to taste his licks, man. Help me rock my balls off. "

Beck @ Hiro Ballroom

"Beck Ticket @ Hiro Ballroom, Am Muslim, will eat Pork for ticket. You heard me right, Cat Stevens got me into Islam and now I am fairly devout in my practice. Sure, sometimes I sneak a cigarette, but no alcohol or anything too bad. Tonight however, I will make an exception. If you have an extra ticket for the Beck show tonight you can take me to a Chinese restataunt beforehand and I will eat whatever you want, even PORK. I'll eat pork ribs, pork loin, pork pastrami, whatever. Or, if you prefer, I will pork you.
Remember, I was into Beck before you were."

Beck @ Hiro Ballroom

Offering 125 for a single ticket - may be able to go a little higher- can get back to you by 6:15pm

Beck @ Hiro Ballroom

My brother has two tickets to tonites show, but unfortunately he was killed in a car accident last nite. He left me the tickets in his last dieing words. I'm asking $1000.00 each to help pay for his funeral..

Beck @ Hiro Ballroom

i've got 4 tix to the shins on monday and am willing to trade them for 2 tix to beck tonite. let me know if you're down.

Beck @ Hiro Ballroom

I actually got through on the ticketweb thing and have two tickets waiting for me at will call tomorrow.
I'm asking for special favors from the recipient of my extra ticket. You don't need to pay me anything, but the best offer of "extras" gets to go to the show.
Don't worry - I'm a 28 year old, athletic, attractive, normal guy who just wants to milk this extra Beck ticket thing for all I can:) You don't even need to hang out with me at the show. This can be very discreet and you will be pleasantly surprised by how cute/fun/normal I am.
Let me know your offers. Pictures are helpful. Thanks.

Beck @ Hiro Ballroom

"a short story: a few years ago, i had a few extra tickets for beck's show at lincoln center (smallish venue, don't remember the name). anyway, instead of going on craigslist or eBay and trying to make a shitload of $$, i went on the beck.com BBS (now sadly defunct), and sold them at FACE VALUE to some desparate fan. I didn't do it so that someday in the future some generous soul would sell me their extra beck tickets, but I figured I'd just tell this story and see if any beck fans get touched deep down inside. As a practical note, I am willing to pay more than face value, but do not want to get shafted. so, let me know. would be much appreciated. thanks."

Beck @ Hiro Ballroom

Who can sell me two tickets? Name a price. I am very poor though...I love him & since he married someone else, at least maybe I can go see him on my birthday!!!! Please help.

Beck @ Hiro Ballroom

"Hello All,
I am in desperate search of Beck tickets for the show on 4/15 at the Hiro Ballroom. Really just need one for myself, but I'd be willing to take as many extras as you may have available, as I have many friends who want to go. Looking to pay face value please, just as I always sell any extras I have for face. "

Beck @ Hiro Ballroom

I really would like to go with my girlfriend but I only have one ticket to see the magical wizard of rhythm.
If you are selling, please please email me at below. I will pay money and if neccessary perform an interpretive dance.
thanks, a

Beck @ Hiro Ballroom

I will pay $200 for a pair of tickets to the Beck show Friday night at the Hiro Ballroom

Beck @ Hiro Ballroom

"I have two tickets to Family Guy Live on April 29th. I paid $80. I will trade them if someone has 2 tickets to Beck tomorrow night. Please?"

I found this;

"it is officially students only. if you show up early you will probably not have any problems as it's an outdoor show and police usually don't do silly things like checking id's at the entrance to campus until it gets later. show will start around 1 or 2pm and run until 11pm. if it rains and gets moved indoors, then you might have some trouble getting in without being a student or a guest of a student.. The Fiery Furnaces @ Webster Hall

I was upset when the Saturday night (April 9th, 2005) Fiery Furnaces show got moved from Bowery Ballroom to Webster Hall, but it turned out not bad at all. In fact, it turned out really, really good. I don't know how they (remember how to) play so many songs in a row without a break, and the new stuff sounded great.

I was initially upset that I missed the smaller Northsix show Thursday night. It ends up I picked the right Fiery Furnaces show, though strangely Bloc Party was also off on Thursday night.

They were danceable, a bit campy, somewhat dark and sexy as all hell.

Saturday's show ranks somewhere in the middle of my live Furnaces experiences.

I don't know what went wrong in Williamsburg the other night, but they were ON POINT at Webster Hall Saturday.

Newsday on Northsix

Music ads hit a fever pitch

"Last summer, Kmart struck a deal with the Raveonettes to feature their song, "That Great Love Sound" in their commercials. Franz Ferdinand's "Take Me Out" is now being used in a PSP commercial and the Yeah Yeah Yeah's have a new song in an Adidas commercial.

The use of indie songs in both advertisements and superficial shows undermines the artistry and meaning of the song as it is attached to a product, show or brand. While there is no escaping this trend, bands and labels need to be careful not to alienate fans by using their songs to "endorse" a product or show."

MTV fails to push indie rock, prefers the pebbles

----

"Among the bands now jamming for Madison Avenue: Franz Ferdinand for the Sony PSP, The Who for Saab, and The Spinners' "Rubberband Man" for OfficeMax. Once a holdout, Led Zeppelin, caved for Cadillac and U2 rocked for iPod. Even Bob Dylan did a spot for Victoria's Secret and Sting revived his music sales in a spot for Jaguar."

Music ads hit a fever pitch

----

On a related note, a coworker asked me if I ever heard of Franz Ferdinand yesterday. They heard them for the first time in the PSP commercial and immediately (legally) downloaded the song.

Mudvayne (not LOA) @ Roseland, NYC | Pics

Mudvayne @ Roseland

Last night was one of those nights when everything went wrong. To begin with, I had to sell my Nouvelle Vague tickets. I was able to, but it was unfortunate. Who knows when they'll play again. I sold the tickets so I could celebrate my friend's birthday at the Life of Agony / Mudvayne show at Roseland. Our main (and only) motivation for going was to see Life of Agony (LOA), a band we've been listening to for almost 15 years.

Mudvayne @ Roseland

Around noon I realized that the doors opened at 6:00. What show starts at six?? I somehow figured out that the first band was going on at 7:00 (which ended up being wrong. they started at 6:30). Now I had to seriously rush to get there after going home from work. Then another friend of ours bailed. Now we had an extra ticket.

Mudvayne @ Roseland

Our plan was to get to the show by 8:00, which we thought would be plenty of time to see both LOA and Mudvayne. At 7:00 we left my Brooklyn apartment in a car. We were going to be early. It was right about the time we entered Manhattan that I realized I forgot the tickets. We turned around, got the tickets, and eventually made it to Roseland, and parked, by 8:40. There was nobody to sell the extra ticket to, and Life of Agony had just left the stage. It wasn't even 9:00, and the third of four bands (a band that sold out two nights in a row at Irving Plaza in 2003) was already finished. Ridiculous.

Mudvayne @ Roseland

The good news is, I took these pictures of Mudvayne. The bad news is, Mudvayne didn't really do it for us. We left early and got Indian food.

Bloc Party @ Webster Hall On Sale Today

I'm so behind in posting. Friday's Bloc Party show at Bowery Ballroom undid any negative thoughts left in my mind by Thursday's show. People danced, they turned up the volume, and the band was acting completely cool. After one or two songs, they told the crowd how much better they were than Thursday night's crowd. The energy worked both ways. I think bands feed off good crowds, resulting in a better show. The louder sound helped too. We heard a totally new song. They announced the June 14th and 15th Webster Hall dates too. Those tickets go on sale today at noon.

Tickets - on sale at Noon

Kele asked why nobody invited Bloc Party to play a block party in Brooklyn. Good question.

Vice Revealed | Annie too cute, Bloc Party too big | Grime

A few posts ago, I reported that Vice Records is no longer releasing the Annie album. A few posts ago, I reported seeing Vice Records signee, Bloc Party, at Bowery Ballroom. If you haven't heard yourself say "grime" yet, you probably will soon. If you haven't heard Vice's Run the Road Grime compilation, you probably should. The Streets. DFA 1979. The list goes on.

How does the mysterious Vice do it? What's their story? What happened with Annie?

“We love the Annie record. But this is a tough one, because I do feel like Vice Records is not just about music. It’s also all the different Vice entities, and for what Vice sort of means to people, having that incredibly cute Norwegian pop singer doesn’t really fit the mold, no matter how great she is.”

"The buzz surrounding Bloc Party has exploded in recent weeks, and as the band is on the verge of mainstream exposure, Vice is learning to handle a new beast."

Those answers at more at the Columbia Spectator: The Virtues of Vice

The Hold Steady opened for Eagles of Death Metal at Bowery Ballroom Tuesday, April 5th, 2005. Their new album, Separation Sunday, comes out on May 3rd. I have a copy, and I love it. Their live show is good too. On May 19th, they'll be headlining Bowery Ballroom. Tickets are on sale for that.

It's impossible to talk about singer Craig Finn, and not bring up a Jello Biafra comparison. Throw in some old Springsteen for good measure. Finn told the crowd that "it’s good to be back in a bar band."

Body in the Road on 10th Street | Dios Malos

(warning: potentially disturbing photos below the fold)

10th street

Saturday night started like any other Saturday night. I attended the Fiery Furnaces show at Webster Hall. Dios Malos opened. It was an early concert because Webster Hall wants the indie rockers out before the regulars arrive. Dios invited the crowd to join them at Kate's Joint after the show. For those that don't know, Kate's Joint is one of the finest vegetarian establishments in NYC. I hadn't had dinner, so I convinced everyone I was with to take Dios up on their offer.

10th street

We took a taxi from Webster (11th St & 3rd Ave) to Kate's (4th St & Ave B). Heading east on 10th, "Hotel California" was playing on the radio (related: the Eagles just happened to be in town). The cab driver was cursing about all the traffic that day. We were making ourselves laugh. Suddenly there was a commotion in front of us. People ran into the street to tell us to stop driving forward. We looked ahead, and saw a body lying twisted in the road.

10th street

Deciding at that moment to live up the NYC cabbie stereotype, our driver tried to drive around the body. We screamed at him to stop. He wouldn't. We demanded to get out right there. He stopped the meter. We paid. He drove around the body by himself.

10th Street goes two ways between A & B. There was a mini-van stopped a few feet behind the body. It had been traveling in the opposite direction than us. There was a lady behind the wheel. The little girl in the passenger seat was most likely her daughter. The windshield was smashed. A hat was dangling on the windshield wiper.

A few people were on the phone with the police. A man, who ran out of his apartment after hearing a loud bang, was telling us what happened. The 21 year old kid lying on the pavement motionless before us, COULD speak. He used his voice to tell us that he couldn't feel his legs. I'm not a doctor, but I sighed relief when someone asked him to wiggle his feet, and he could. There was no blood, and he could talk - both good signs.

I had my camera with me. What to do? Obviously whipping out a camera in this situation would be the wrong thing to do. A fire truck was the first emergency vehicle on the scene. Five or six firefighters jumped out of the truck and started doing what they do. At that point, I knew the injured man was in good hands. I pulled out my camera. An ambulance and a cop showed up. The cop was the first person to talk to the panicking woman sitting behind the wheel of the damaged vehicle. I wonder if anyone asked her if she was ok the whole time.

Everything seemed under control. We left and walked the rest of the way to Kate's. Dios wasn't there when we got there, but did eventually show up. They hung at the bar. We had our own little party going on at a back table. Before we left, I said hello to the singer, and told him I enjoyed the show.

Bloc Party @ Bowery BAllroom

Bloc Party played the first of two shows at Bowery Ballroom in NYC Thursday night (April 7th, 2005). Thanks to Kathryn Yu for the above picture.

SCALPING

Tickets were going for $100 a pop outside the venue. The block was filled with people looking and hoping for a miracle. Kele (singer) asked the crowd who paid the most to get in. Someone in the front screamed $200. He gave them his laminated pass and asked him/her to sell it on E-bay to recoup some of that loss.

NO DANCING

The show was both awesome and frustrating at the same time (like being tied up and tickled?). The complaint? More people stood around with their arms folded than danced. (like Toronto) There was a small pocket of communal dancing and excitement going on in the front (which I eventually found my way to), but the rest of the crowd might as well have been sitting. My favorite line from Kele: "I don't care what magazine you work for. You can have fun and dance." (or something like that).

A few times I just closed my eyes, and pretended I was back at Roxy. There should be a mandatory open bar for an hour before every Bloc Party performance. I think that would have helped.

WHO DO THEY THINK THEY ARE?

As also reported at the Modern Age, Bloc Party thought they were funny by pretending to start songs by The Killers, Franz Ferdinand, Interpol, Radiohead, and Coldplay. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Bloc Party's intent was to pick on those bands and the people that like them. Funny? a little. Cocky? a lot.

INTERMISSION

After about 30 minutes of playing, Bloc Party left the stage. Was it over? No, it was just intermission. Either that, or the encore was really long.

SEEN IN THE CROWD

AFTER PARTY

The after party was at Pianos. Bloc Party, Ultragrrrl, and Karen Plus One were DJing. I went right from Bowery to Pianos, but by the time I got there, there was already a line half way down the block. Not too bad, EXCEPT it was pouring. I had no umbrella, but waited anyway. By the time I got up to the list, I was drenched. Then my name wasn't on the list. Luckily there were enough +1's to go around, and I eventually got in.

I'm not big on after-parties, especially ones on a weeknight, but I'm glad I went. Bloc Party was ('if you want to call it') DJing and generally just hanging out with the full-to-capacity crowd. Iha appeared again. I think I saw Chris Glover.

The really interesting thing happened when I was about to leave at 2am (the same time Human Television was starting to play). I couldn't help but notice Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt from Green Day hangin at the front bar with two large bodyguards close by. (Strange that I had just been talking about Green Day earlier in the day).

I'm a jaded New Yorker, but I still got excited at the sight of them in a bar. I'm not the type to approach celebrities, but I can't say the same for my friend who thinks American Idiot is the best thing since sliced bread. Long story short, this friend and Billie were talking about the meaning of life with their arms around each other for about five minutes. My camera wasn't working, so I unfortunately couldn't capture the Kodak moment.

After Billie left, I ended up outside in a group discussion with Mike Dirnt. Mike is the most conceited, down-to-earth, guy you'll ever meet. He was really, really nice, and had no problem just chillin' with his fans. We asked him if he saw Bloc Party. He hadn't. I'm not sure they even knew it was the after-party. They were in town to play Saturday Night Live (tomorrow). He told us about his plans for a few more albums, mixed with world domination.

Our party was eventually broken up by another endearing fan. I used that opportunity to finally get home and get some sleep. Thanks to Brian for the two photos of Mike Dirnt.

NEXT

Bloc Party are back at Bowery tonight (Friday). Expect more scalping.

And the breaking news is two more scheduled shows at Webster Hall: June 14th & 15th. Tix not on sale yet.

Eagles of Death Metal @ Bowery Ballroom, NYC | Pics

Eagles of death Metal @ Bowery Ballroom

Tuesday night (April 5th, 2005), Eagles of Death Metal (EODM) played Bowery Ballroom. It was their fourth, and biggest, show in NYC (I think), and about a week after Queens of the Stone Age (QOTSA) played Webster Hall. The EODM are just one of a multitude of bands that make up the family most famously represented by QOTSA. Most of that family has participated one way or another in the Desert Sessions, and that's actually where the EODM made their first appearance. The most direct link EODM has to QOTSA is Josh Homme. He sings in QOTSA. He plays drums in EODM, but apparantly not anymore. In fact, EODM's lineup was different by three. New bassist. New guitarist. New drummer. I think most of the crowd shared my confusion when we noticed the person behind the drums was female (and therefore definitely not Josh). Did it matter? No. I think they may actually be better without him: more proof that they're not just a celebrity side project.

Eagles of death Metal @ Bowery Ballroom

According to the Desert Sun, the new bass player is Brian "Big Hand" O'Connor, and on drums was Samantha Maloney from Hole and Motley Crue. Samantha, who's from NYC, had her whole family up in the balcony. We know because more than once the spotlight was put upon them on Jesse (the singer)'s command. Are the changes permanent? I don't know. Maybe not. Both missing members (the band used to just be three people) are touring with Queens of the Stone Age too (Josh and Tim).

Eagles of death Metal @ Bowery Ballroom

The show was great. The place was almost sold out. Everyone was real into it. The encore was classic - tons of girls from the audience got on stage (as you can see in the pics). This post goes out to the ladies.

Ted Leo sounds like Tiny Tim, says Howard Stern

Everyone's been talking about Kelly Clarkson's song, Since You've Been Gone, and Ted Leo's cover of it. Pitchfork reviewed it. Even Kelly (the American Idol) herself is talking about it.

The conversation reached the Howard Stern show today. Howard, Robin and Artie must have been arguing about the song earlier in the show. An audience member called in to defend the song, and he informed them of the Ted Leo cover version. Howard asked who Ted Leo was. Arty (who's going to see the Eagles at MSG tonight) said something (possibly joking) like, "Ted Leo is great. He'll be playing the Garden soon." Long story short, the caller played the Ted Leo version into the phone (and over the radio). "The song is even more gay when a dude sings it," Howard said..."He sounds like Tiny Tim."

I have the Ted Leo version (which I like), but haven't heard the orginal yet (I don't think). Does someone know where I can download it?

The annual Coney Island Village Voice Siren Festival is happening on July 16th, 2005. Ted Leo played in 2003.

Bloc Party Appears to be On

Kele, the singer of Bloc Party, didn't seem to have any trouble with his voice on Letterman just now. And since we haven't heard otherwise (and based on the comments two posts ago) I assume the Bloc Party shows are on for Thursday and Friday night at the Bowery.

Even the New York Press recommends seeing Bloc Party, and the Village Voice agrees.

Bloc Party Shows Postponed?

If you didn't already know, it's Bloc Party at the Bowery week. According to a statement published on Music for Robots, there's now a chance the two shows may get postponed. The Philly show they were scheduled to play tonight has been moved to June in a new venue.

My 2 Cents: If they cancel the Bowery shows and reschedule them for Webster Hall (like they've done for The Arcade Fire and The Fiery Furnaces), I'm gonna.... I don't know what I'm gonna do, but I'll be pissed.

Ultragrrrl's Label

Tricia Romano writes...

"Another person I suspect is on a mission for world domination is none other than ULTRAGRRRL a/k/a SARAH LEWITINN. The DJ-blogger-gal-about-town recently quit her job at Spin to start her own record label. Called Stolen Transmission in homage to the JOY DIVISION song, it's a subsidiary of a major label, although she couldn't yet tell me which one because the contract has not been signed. (She's going on vacation first.) "It was suggested by people in the industry that I start a label," she said. "I am not the best writer in the world; it's something I came to grips with. So, I am gonna find bands and make them as big as I can." As one of the early champions of THE KILLERS, FRANZ FERDINAND, and STELLASTAR, she knows whereof she speaks, but she's still operating with caution. "I can do whatever the hell I want," she says. "If I want to sign the dude playing guitar in a subway, I can, but I want to be wise how I spend money." Ultra's got her eye on a band in L.A. that she describes as "THE PIXIES meet the BEACH BOYS. If you go on my iTunes they tower over everyone else in plays." Mum's the word for now, but I bet if we go to her blog there might be a few generous hints. "

Music Mashup | Fischerspooner, Iron & Wine, Nancy Sinatra, etc...

Back in December, I saw Nancy Sinatra perform at Joe's Pub. Just the other day, Evan Dando made a special appearance at the Ben Kweller/Walkmen show. Evan teamed up with Sabrina Brooke to cover a Nancy Sinatra song. Download it at 'Between thought and expression'

Iron & Wine's new album is the first one that turned me into a fan of his form of folk. Kellis brings the boys to the yard. Massive Attack was accused of liking boys (or was it girls?). Download a mashup of all three artists.

Fischerspooner's new album was released today. People are covering Bjork for charity. Download a mashup of Bjork and Fischerspooner.

Fischerspooner is playing a bunch of small shows in honor of the new album. Maybe Scissor Sisters will stop by to show their fellow NYC electroclash-scene-born brothers some support. Download a mashup of Scissor Sisters and Fischerspooner.

In my experience, the haters far outnumber the lovers when it comes to CocoRosie. Brian Head Welch sings to 50 Cent | MP3

jammin

Brian Head Welch's upcoming reality show just adds to the suspicion that this is all some publicity stunt, but anyway...

"For the second time in as many weeks, Welch has written an open letter to the platinum-plus rapper, detailing his efforts to deliver what he calls "a personal letter from God" to him.

Welch had previously explained that while on religious holiday in Israel, God told him to write a song for 50. And now he's sent over the lyrics to that song, called "A Cheap Name," which not only touch upon 50's past (most notably the 2000 shooting where he was hit nine times), but call upon him to change his ways:

"My little boy/ Bow your head in shame/ You've disgraced your father's name now/ It's time for you to lose," the lyrics read in part. "Your little toys/ Won't save you from shot 10/ Without me you will not win, no/ I swear you'll lose."

Welch explained that "A Cheap Name" was not an attack on 50, but rather a "message from God" (the last line in the song is "Love, Jesus"). And as he explained further in his letter, Welch only wants the rapper to change the way he lives his life, because, as he put it, "God told me there will be many attempts made to kill you by the enemy." (from Zone 94.1)

Joanna Newsom News | Hal Willner, (Smog)

Devendra Banhart & Joanna Newsom
Joanna Newsom and Devendra Banhart

Tucker Martine of Mount Analog reports...

"Today at Flora we were tracking some of the soundtrack for the new brainchild of theater visionary Robert Wilson and Hal Willner. The artists are Joanna Newsom, Bill Frisell, Eyvind Kang, Doug Weiselman and Ralph Carney. Its a continuous track of an intergalactic fantasy folk orchestra."

This other site said...

"Most recently Hyde Street Studios welcomed Joanna Newsom, who was continuing her unique sounds of Appalachian avant-garde folk music with grammy award winner Hal Willner producing, Gabriel Shepard engineering, and Stephen Armstrong and BenJoaquin Gouverneur assisting."

And Chart Attack says that Smog's new album comes out on May 23d. About the contributors....

"Along with bass player Connie Lovatt (of Containe) and drummer Jim White (of The Dirty Three), Callahan will reportedly have a bevy of guests on hand for the album. Thor Harris will lend his percussion skills to the music, while Travis Weller will contribute fiddle and Smog’s Drag City label-mate Joanna Newsom will take a seat on the piano bench."

Annie Playing NYC in One Week?

Word is that Annie is DJing and performing in NYC on April 9th. That's one week away.

I have no idea where, but as posted earlier, the Annie Nightingale/LCD Soundsysem event looks like a perfect fit. (note: Annie Nightingale is a different Annie)

April 9th is six days earlier than the last rumor. Hopefully that means more than one show.

Pitchfork further confirms this...

"In the meantime, Annie is currently set to make a visit to New York City during the first week of April for press duties. The label rep also noted that an Annie-helmed DJ gig is more than likely during her stay, though a time/day/location is yet to be confirmed."

Help Todd P & the llano estacado

Copy and pasted:

Do you know Todd Patrick? Perhaps you've been to one of the hundreds of shows he's selflessly promoted over the years throughout Brooklyn.

In the last few months, Todd's been working hard to build out his very own venue, the Llano Estacado, in Williamsburg. It's a great big pre-Civil War warehouse basement with great natural sound and a lot going for it. Todd started having shows there in January and things quickly soared in popularity. On March 4, however, local police and fire dept. officials cited Todd with several code violations, and in order to protect his space, he shut it down until the necessary improvements could be made. And he's been making those improvements himself.

So I ran into Todd at his show for Black Mountain tonight and talked with him for a while about the situation. He really could use some volunteers this weekend to help him out with construction in the space. His deadline for most of the work to be completed is Tuesday, April 5th, and he can get there with your help. You don't need tools but if you have them it's very welcome. You should be an able-bodied person who can deal with a spot of hard labor, and you should dress appropriately (clothes you don't care about, workboots if you got em). The more people who help out, the sooner the work will be complete, and Todd can relocate all of his shows back to the space.

The weather is supposed to be rainy this weekend, so spending it warm and dry indoors while you help a great guy get a DIY concert venue in proper condition should be a no-brainer.

Todd's working from 10am-10pm this Saturday and Sunday (April 2-3, 2005). I'm not going to be there for all of it but I will be blocking out 3-4 hours each day to help. That's kind of a reaonable commitment for you, even if you can only come by one day.

Get in touch if you're interested in helping out, and I'll coordinate w/ Todd and get back to you. mosurock at gmail dot net

Bunky Gets More Love | Hedberg passes on

As you may, or may not, know by know, comedian Mitch Hedberg passed away yesterday. Since they say they always come in threes, do Johnny Cochran, Terry Schiavo and Mitch Hedberg make the three? Or is the third the Pope because Terry doesn't count? What's the connection?

Last week I expressed my love for Bunky.

Mitch Hedberg and Bunky? What's the connection?

The Big Ticket is the connection. Run over there for a real tribute to Mitch with MP3s of his comedy, and links to other obituaries, AND some Bunky MP3s. Go.
