Before I copy and paste the following story, I should state for the record that: I met David Lee Roth and John Norris, didn't meet Seal, and witnessed an obnoxiously drunk girl run for the door after being poisoned with Visine by a bartender (or so I thought)... all at Save the Robots circa 1994. That said...

Tricia Romano reports...

"East Village landmark club Guernica has been saved. SCOTT LONG, ROBERT JOHNSON, and JC SCRUGGS (all formerly of the Knitting Factory) have teamed up with former Wetlands GM CHARLEY RYAN to open the space once known as Save the Robots with more of a focus on live music. "It'll be the same eclectic mix you're getting at the Knitting Factory except there will be a lot more DJ stuff going on following shows and upstairs," says Johnson. Though the venue isn't christened yet they are aiming for a mid-May opening."

I used to go to Save the Robots a lot, around '92-'94, and one night, i saw David Lee Roth there. I sat next to him for a while, but i didn't talk to him. He was too busy staring at girls.

Also used to see John Norris at Limelight. He always had his arm around some cute young boy.

nice. this is just the sort of facelift the place needs to excise the demons from the stabbing there nearly two years ago. More live music venues = better live music venues.

Does this mean that there will be a new wetlands/jamband-y type venue to go to? There hasn't been a similar vibe anywhere since Charey, Pete Shapiro and the gang closed-down in 2001.

I was the doorman of Robots from 1988 to 1994.
A fun time.
