Mike Neuman's Friday the 13th Post | Hello Nurse, Gang of Four, Tattoo Convention
My name is Mike Neuman, and I am your guest-blogger for today. I am neither vegan, nor am I from Brooklyn, so I hope you'll accept me.
So today is Friday the 13th, and I have taken it upon myself to plan your entire day for you! You can thank me later. First thing's first. Pre-order Gang of Four's classic debut album, "Entertainment!" .It first came out in 1979/1980, depending on what country you live in. It was re-released in 1995 and quickly went out of print again. Now it's back again, this time with bonus live tracks. I can say without hesitation that this is one of the best albums of all time. Don't believe me? Pitchfork gave it a 9.5. Also check out Rolling Stone's original review of the album, way back in 1980. They are playing Irving Plaza on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. Tickets are sold out, but if you hit Craigslist hard enough, you can probably score a pair.
OK, so got the CD pre-ordered and some sketchy dude is selling you Gang of Four tickets? Great, let's move along.
In honor of Friday the 13th, Bowery Tattoo will be giving tattooing people for only THIRTEEN DOLLARS! The catch? The only thing they will tattoo on you is the number "13". That's right, tomorrow after 1 PM, you can go into Bowery Tattoo and get a nice "13" tattooed on you for only 13 bucks! Mom will love it!
So in case getting meaningless numbers tattooed onto your body for life doesn't do it for you, you're in luck! The 8th Annual New York City Tattoo Convention is at Roseland all weekend long. Tickets are kind of pricey. $18 for the day, or $50 for all 3 days. But seriously, if you want to get tattooed, you can usually get great work from great artists from all over the world for much cheaper then you normally could.
Speaking of Roseland, apparently Weezer played there last night. I wasn't there, and you weren't either. The Green Album, Maladroit, and now Make Believe. Sorry Rivers, but three strikes and you're out. "But Mike" you ask, "now who is going to quench my thirst for power-pop?" Well I'm glad you asked, because the excellent Hello Nurse, a local indie rock/power-pop 4-piece, are playing tonight at Crash Mansion. There is no cover before 11, and there is an open bar from 9 to 10. It's 21+.
