Siren vs. Intonation | (& Exclusive Initial Siren Lineup)
The Village Voice Siren Festival and Pitchfork's Intonation festival are both happening on July 16th.
Not only can you see Tortoise, Death From Above 1979, The Go! Team, Broken Social Scene, Four Tet, Magnolia Electric Company, AC Newman, Beans Featuring The Holy Fuck, The M’s, Head of Femur, Will Oldham, Jean Grae, The Decemberists, Les Savy Fav, The Wrens, Deerhoof, Andrew Bird, Out Hud, Xiu Xiu AND Dungen for the $22 TWO DAY PASS (less than I paid to see the Decemberists alone at Warsaw this Thursday), BUT people are also saying Thunderbirds are Now! and The Hold Steady (I really thought we were gonna get them) are also on the bill for Bitchfork's Intonation Music Festival.
The Village Voice still hasn't announced who's playing Siren (probably because there's no bands left to book), but we've managed to compile a list of confirmed/unconfirmed/rumored bands:
Spoon, Quintron, The Dears, Q and not U, VHS or Beta, Ambulance Ltd.
Possible players: The Arcade Fire & Dinosaur Jr.
How much is a plane ticket to Chicago?

Would it be totally impossible to get acts playing Intonation on Sunday to play Siren the day before?

Manic Mess is reporting that the Dears are playing

I believe so am I...

ugh i saw The Dears on Jimmy Kimmel or something on friday and they were pretty lackluster. Spoon & Arcade Fire would be so cool for Siren

It's almost June...what scares me is that they haven't even announced an initial lineup yet, like they have done in the past...in April.

i don't think Spoon will be doing it. My friend was talking to Tigers & Monkeys who are one of the possible bands for Siren and they told him they're not allowed to play in the NYC area for a couple months before/after Siren, and we all know Spoon ARE playing in NYC a little over a month before Siren. Spoon would be amazing to see, but i just don't think it'll happen :(

That sounds like a bunch of crap...
I'm pretty sure Ted Leo and Rx did shows in NYC a few days before and after Siren '03..correct me if I'm wrong...

Pollstar says Brendan Benson is playing Siren...no other bands listed as of today.

Rachel, Don't let The Dears performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live fool you. Actually, I didn't think it was that bad. A good Dears performance can sometimes only be appreciate within the darkness of a club, with just the righdt amount of lighting and cool screen projections behind 'em. Yeah, the brightness of an outdoor concert might not be ideal for them but I've seen them twice in outdoor settings and still thought they were awesome. I think it's whether you're a fan of their music which'll determine if you'll enjoy them.

On the Dischord website it lists Q and not U as playing Siren

"and i saw jon spencer blues explosion at maxwell's the day before their performance at the first siren."
Maxwell's happens to be in Hoboken, NJ. I'm not saying this is 100 percent, i'm just saying what i was told and i just don't think that Spoon will be playing Siren. I would loveeeeeeeeeee if they did, but i just don't think it'll happen, that's all i was really trying to say...

"not allowed to play in the NYC area"
I think it's safe to say that Maxwell's IS in the NYC area...

I'm hoping to see NYC guitar-snarling bands like Some Action, The Brought Low, The Regs and others play SIREN. That would be cool.

Count Dinosaur Jr out. They're playing in Quebec on July 16th.

Q and Not U's website says they're playing the Main Stage at Siren at 4pm, specifically.

Spoon have officially been added to the Siren lineup. They're listed on the website, along with Mates of State, Brendan Benson, VHS or Beta, Q and Not U, Dungen and the Dears.
They did not list either Ambulance Ltd. or Quintron & Miss Pussycat, though i hear they are both confirmed (it's on Quintron's tourdates page, actually).
Where the hell are the Blood Brothers? Someone should give them a call.

How about the World/Inferno Friendship Society and Against Me!? That would be great. Spoon's a lackluster headline act, if you ask me.
Posted by Josh | June 3, 2005 10:16 AM
They should get the Super Furries to headline

Ryan Adams is most definitely NOT going to be playing Siren Fest this year. His website has him elsewhere.
