As reported on Pitchfork and More Cowbell the other day, Sufjan Stevens is touring this summer in support of his new album Illinois. The revealed tour dates are in California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, British Columbia, Utah, Colorado, and Arizona, so I didn't rush to post them.
Then today I found out Sufjan is playing August 19th and 20th at Bowery Ballroom in NYC, and that tickets go on sale today at noon. Up until now, Sufjan has stuck to the smaller venues (Southpaw, Mercury Lounge, Knitting Factory, etc...) (not counting the Plug Awards at Webster Hall). I want to believe that two nights in a row at Bowery is the natural progression on his rise to fame mixed with the anticipated popularity of his next album, but I realize I can't discount the popularity he must have received from his association with the OC.
