The Hold Steady @ Bowery Ballroom

Above photo of The Hold Steady @ Bowery Ballroom in NYC last night (May 19th, 2005). It was their CD release party, and Craig's smile (aimed at his wife) sums up the extraordinary show, but more on that later.

The Hold Steady are shooting a video for "Your Little Hoodrat Friend" this Saturday (May 21st, 2005) @ The Church St. Boxing Gym located @ 25 Park Place between Church & Broadway (in Manhattan). It's from 4:00 - 10:00 pm. Everyone is invited. Wear street clothes. Food will be provided.

One week later they're performing @ Sound Fix Records in Brooklyn

hey! i actually got an email from french kiss (the label) that said this: "if you can dress up (suits, dresses, ties, etc) you will have a better chance of getting on screen, i would say." just thought i'd pass that on!

this show was billed as having a speacial guest from minneapolis. anyone know who it was?

im excited for their free show in st paul with har mar superstar and the olympic hopefuls on 6/5. anyone going?

The special guest was Slug--the rapper from Atmosphere. He came out and did a song during Brother Ali's opening set. They did Cats Van Bags...a song they did together on Atmosphere's last album. I don't think many people recognized Slug during the show though, and Brother Ali was the first opener so the place wasn't that packed yet either.

Incidentally, Brother Ali had a great show.

When they first announced the show w/ special guest, Brother Ali wasn't on the bill, so I think technically he was the special guest with a special guest of his own (or whatever :).

During The Hold Steady set, Craig said something about Brother Ali being the best lyricist, and how special it was to have him him play the show.
