Foie Gras is for the Uninformed (aka Gothamist)

I'm not much of an activist, but Foie Gras is disgusting, uber-cruel, & pointless, and Gothamist writing something positive about it ("our favorite foie gras dish in the city was blah blah blah") has me wondering if I'll submit a post next week. On the other hand, I know first hand that Gothamist doesn't really edit much (if any... which I think is a good thing) of it's contributor's content (therefore making the post the sole responsibility of it's author...even if it does have the standard Gothamist "we" lingo), and I believe in free speech (and my ability to trackback their post with this response), and I know that some people are just uninformed about the reality that is foie gras. Everyone makes mistakes.

I think it would be commendable if BV held off a week from posting the picks unless Gothamist issues a retraction. For my part, I'll be singing "When Gothamist Talks to God" on Leno next week.

i think this would be something valid to put in the comments, but anything even approaching a negative perspective is deleted per their arcane -- not to mention dumb -- comment policy.

Thanks. I'm also glad you brought this up. All of the "animals eat each other" and "until ducks can fight back" arguments in the comments make my head spin.
On a more amusing note -- your google ads have been foie gras-ed! : ) I especially like the "stop tofu abuse" tshirt.

Hmm, interesting dilemma. You're right about Gothamist being the voice of many people with clearly different interests, but the use of the "we" does make it clear that they are intending to be heard as one solid unit. Also entertaining is that the Google-served ad on this post advertises "Fresh Domestic Foie gras." DEEEEEEEEEEELISH.

there is a big article on foie gras in ny mag this week. in any event, foie gras is not only cruel, it's fucking gross.

Seriously, leave the ads up, if they are of any help to you. They always end up making their own sort of guerilla theater, which makes me chuckle. Like those ebay ads that snag whatever the main thought is of a NYT article is and ask you if you would like to buy it at ebay. One asked me once if I would like to buy HIV there.
