DJ LADY MISS KIER @ LUKE & LEROY
On Friday June 3rd I stopped by Luke & Leroy (home of Misshapes) to check out a DJ set by Lady Miss Kier (Dee-Lite). Once upon a time I saw Dee-Lite play at City Gardens in Trenton, NJ, and many years ago I used to see her out in NYC all the time (way more than I now see David Byrne). It's been a while. Anyway, I can't tell you if she was good DJ or not. I can't remember, but I think I was dancing (and I think it was her DJing at the time).
You can see her again this Thursday, June 23rd, 2005, @ Larry Tee's Distortion Disko "gay pride spectacular" party at Duvet (21st between 5th & 6th - NYC). We're going to dance. We're going to dance. And have some fun.

Two more thoughts from the morning shower...
1) The last time I actually saw Lady Miss Kier perform was at Perry Farrell's Enit Festival at Garden State Arts Center in Jersey in 1996.

I love her so much and never had the chance to see her in the 1990's as I was completely a suburbian kid at that time. I will be at Duvet next week! Thanks a million! Otherwise, I would have never known that she still performs!!!

Every time I hear about Lady Miss Kier I must mention this classic City Gardens bathroom graffiti: "I shot up with Lady Miss Keir." A hopeful google search to find a reference to this came up with something almost as good: "Lady Miss Keir from deelite peed on my flashlight backstage at a rave she was perfoming at (I was doing video projection for the show). To Lee from a year ago... you sum things up well. I have happy images of The Miss K from many years ago... alas I've had no chance to see her flick a tune or two, however I 'am' listening to her sing - 'Smile on... Pass it on' as we speak. I hope all weight issues remain irrelevant - just sit back and listen to the Miss-tress. x
