Siren Festival Lineup updated again

Two more acts announced for Siren:
1) Be Your Own Pet
2) Nine Black Alps

Nine Black Alps are from the UK. Here's their NME page
Be Your Own Pet's NME page is not as populated.

Be Your Own Pet is a Rolling Stone artist to watch
And Splendid says that "Be Your Own Pet are so badass and so young that it wouldn't be a surprise if a group of aging rockers paid decent money to have them silenced, as any band that's this good at this age makes everyone else in the scene look bad."

The Village Voice says that more Siren acts will be announced. They still haven't announced Quintron. Quintron + Nine Black Alps + Be Your Own Pet + everyone else they already announced = 13 acts so far. Probably one more we don't know about.

The lineup's been going from bad to worse.

Nine Black Alps?? Be Your Own Pet??This isn't an A&R showcase.

It just seems that the Voice are just scrapping at the bottom of the barrel and taking whatever they can get.

With the exception of Spoon, if you put all these bands on one lineup, I truly doubt that you could get enough people to fill Webster Hall, let alone get enough people to justify calling it a festival.

That being said, I am looking forward to seeing Dungen and Brendon Benson again, who both had awesome instore performances at Othermusic.

the Siren is the worst concert idea ever. I went last year and will never go again, unless I had a backstage pass. Rubbish.

I saw Be Your Own Pet at SXSW and they're better than I thought they'd be, but then again I only caught the last three or four songs. Anyway...Siren's lineup looks pretty dim.

You are so very clueless. A whole bunch of great bands playing for FREE!!!!!!!!! and this is a bad idea?!?!?!?! wow. that has to be the opitomy of ungratefulness.

I feel that the more people who think this lineup sucks the better. As I've said before, I'm going no matter what (because I recognize a good thing when I see it) and if there are smaller crowds, great!

i don't think quintron is playing. the tourdates section of their website lists ??? for 7/16.

we'll see.

You can find me at the main stage for most of the day by the looks of it.

This does seem a bit strange. There aren't really any big name acts on here. I mean the Dears are cool and are on the way up, but are pretty small right now. They had a hard time filling Bowery ballroom a few weeks ago. Be Your Own Pet, while I am sure they are cool live, don't deserve to be on this show. The only people who know this band are in the industry and that is LAME.

That being said, there are some good bands playing at least. Mates Of State, Spoon, Morningwood, Dungen. Maybe it will be a little less crowded this year which will make it more enjoyable. At least it's free!

I agree that this year isn't as mind blowing as 2003's festival, but the reality is that besides for maybe 3 or 4 bands on the bill that totally blow, this is a full day of great bands playing great music. Spoon, The Dears, Morningwood, Mates Of State, Brendan Benson, Dungen are all good live. These are all bands that if you haven't seen them play live, you MUST. You will be instant fans of Morningwood and The Dears after seeing them play. Garunteed.
As long as the weather is nice, i am looking forward to going!

Posted by ashley | June 27, 2005 2:28 PM

how the hell does a band like Nine Black Alps get on Siren?

Posted by Anonymous | June 27, 2005 2:30 PM

This line up is great everyone! It makes planning the day pretty easy!

3-3:40 see The Dears

3:40-4:10 see Morningwood

4:10-7:30 ride the Rollercoaster and develope skin cancer waiting in line to go again

7:30-9 run back and forth between Spoon and Mates Of State.

Posted by Anonymous | June 27, 2005 2:36 PM

isn't VHS or Beta supposed to be awesome? I never saw them live, but i used to hear about them all the time. Doesn't seem like anyone is talking about them anymore though, at least not in regard to Siren.

Posted by Anonymous | June 27, 2005 2:48 PM

I love this festival! I'm usually a bit overwhelmed with so many acts, but it's great anyway))

Posted by Ambulance Doc | July 7, 2005 8:45 AM

the more i think about it, the more i like this line up. true, it isnt the all star cast of indie rock that it has been in the past few years, but there are some truly great bands that in a years time will probably be bigger than any of the bands that have played it previously. also, it will be kind of nice not going out there hell bent on seeing every band play, but only the few that i want to, and then spending the other times roaming around.

My must see's are Spoon, Brendan Benson and Morningwood.

Posted by chloe | July 7, 2005 12:31 PM

Q and not U are disbanding and this will be one of their last shows.

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2005 2:33 PM

Good. they are terrible.

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2005 5:05 PM

i disagree

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2005 5:25 PM

terrible is a little harsh. But no, not the greatest group out there.

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2005 6:24 PM

Siren fucking blows so hard. Hopefully this sorry lineup marks the end of the festival forever.
