The Death of the Killers? Bloc Party Next? | Bjork

Pauline Millard from The Simon writes...

"Any music fan worth their salt can remember June 2004 when The Killers' album, Hot Fuss, was all the rage, at least it was south of 14th Street. Even a year later I can still put it on and just let it rip, no skipping songs or turning it off after the fifth track. I remember going to their show at the Bowery Ballroom on August 16th..."

"...That's why I get mad when I hear The Killers' played at yuppie watering holes with names like, "The Mad River Grille" and on Top 40 radio stations like Z-100, which manages to ruin every great song."

"...Naturally someone is going to pipe up and tell me not to be such a whiner, that the point of music, and what these artists hope to achieve, is to reach the masses..."

"...I shrugged, changed into my flat shoes and headed home, where I turned on my Bloc Party CD. Surely it was safe to listen to them, at least for another year."

The Death of the Killers?

-----

Speaking of the Killers, I'm sure you already heard about the secret show (the one I thought was happening back when)

I wish Bjork would play some secret shows. Maybe to promote her new soundtrack.

that article is such bullshit, narrow-minded, cultural snobbery

and aside from a couple singles, the killers album wasn't all that great anyway. same with bloc party. there, i said it.

I was going to say almost the exact same thing. For one, who gets all possessive about the Killers? And for two, I'd much rather hear music I enjoy than the regular crap that gets pumped out. I quite like Bloc Party, and would love to see them get popular.

How are we to prevent "genuinely great music go the way of the frat boy" anyway? And why is this necessary? This article has nothing to do with music - it has to do with Pauline. Ms. Millard needs to see herself as unique and Bohemian (beautiful perhaps?) and the notion of commonality with "girls named Rachel and Jennifah" is a (painful) suggestion to her that she may be neither of those.

My prescription would be for her to listen exclusively to Bob Log III.

Yeah, and I've got some Jandek records for her too.

She can sit at home all day, listen to Bob Log III and Jandek, and stop polluting the internet with her inanity.

NYC must be a little behind. Bloc Party jumped the underground shark in LA a few months ago.

Play on three radio stations

Massive Coachella performance

Played the giant KROQ summer concert

Sold out two shows at the El Rey theater in under 10 minutes

Not that I have any problems with this. But to be all whiny underground about a band that's already blowing up just shows how out-of-tuch this person actually is.

apparantly that magazine changed the URL of that article (so the link was dead). I updated it. if you got a dead link before, try again.
