The Hold Steady vs. The Fame
MAY 4TH, 2005 VILLAGE VOICE | JUNE 1ST, 2005 NY PRESS
Last month, the Village Voice put a band on their cover for the first time ever (I think I read/heard that). Less than a month later, the NY Press (the other free weekly NYC alternative newspaper) decorated its cover with a band of its own.

* The Hold Steady are playing Starland Ballroom in NJ on June 26th, Conan O'Brien on July 19th, and Bowery Ballroom in NYC on August 5th and 6th. All tour dates here.
* The Fame are playing Gothamist's next Movable Hype show at Knitting Factory in NYC on June 20th. (Also on that hot bill are Ghostland Obervatory, Man in Gray, DJ Nick Catchdubs, a "special guest" to be announced soon)

not true. It's a local band, and they just haven't been announced yet for contractual reasons or something like that. (but good try)

anyone actually read the article on The Fame? its absolutely awful, neglecting to discuss the band but rather just taking shots at anything considered "hip", seems to me that somebodys storing some anger.

i thought that Fame article was great. j.r. taylor may be a bit of a wanker, but his voice is unlike any other music critic's. (and his knowledge of music and music history is eerily encyclopedic.) i found the piece fun and refreshing.

first local band in 15 years, MF was the last band, though. at least thats what the VV told us (FKR).
also, they are playing carson daly on 7/20
