Willie Nelson @ Yogi Berra Stadium, NJ | Pics

Willie Nelson @ Yogi Berra Stadium

Yesterday (Friday, June 24th, 2005) I took a road trip to NJ which included a show by Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan @ Yogi Berra Stadium @ Montclair State University in Montclair, NJ.

Willie opened for Bob at the packed stadium. I was on the ground. The bleachers were full too. Here are the photos of Willie.

"These musicians have been with Willie a long time, and along with his two sons, one on drums & one on electric guitar, this is TRULY a family band on the road." - from a review of the June 4th show.

Vegan, you are amazing-- you not only get to every indie show in town, you go out to Jersey to worship the gods of another era, too. Well, I was there with my son but you were a little closer to the stage than we were. Most unbelievable show I've seen since the Pixies came to town--and the amazing thing is that no 2 Dylan shows are ever the same--look at the set lists and you will see that he did 10 completely different songs the previous night in Massachusetts--only one song plus the encores was repeated in NJ !

Yep, that's an additional hole in Willie's guitar. It's been explained to me that he wore it down over time, not by dropping it.

I caught this show in Camden, NJ. Willie Nelson was the highlight of his show. The older of his two boys is WAY GOOD.

Correction: THIS show, not his show. Bob Dylan was less impressive.

Can someone post Willie's setlist?

As 4 the comments about Willie, IMHO, way off base and off track. Mr. Nelson was in fine form voice and playing wise, his song selection reflected a body of work older than you, and at 72, God Bless him for still going strong. The new tune "I'm No Superman" was meant to be funny, and obviously went over your immature head. Dylan has not changed at all in the past 40 years....still ragged but right, never commercial, a voice in the wilderness. As for comments about only white people being there, that reveals your own latent racism. Grow up and hadnle your biz, like JAYZ says, H to the Izzo!

Just wanted to give a shout out for Willie...I had never been a big fan and I hit the show after this one in East Lake, Ohio. While I was not terribly inpressed with Dylans' performance, Willie was by far the star of the show. It makes me all tingly and teary-eye just thinking about it.

I want to know what album "I ain't Superman" is on. I heard it in Beaumont TX in May. Another that is vaguely heard and vaguely remember was the words "mark the sailor's journey". I think my husband recorded it while I was in the restroom. Anyone know what it is. I would LOVE to know. By the Way....we sat on the front row, in the center. I was wonderful and made me love him even more. I neber dreamed I would have the opportunity to get that close. we got good pics, autograph, and I gave him a marker for his autographs and have a oic with my pen top in his month!

Willie played an awesome set at Red Rocks on Sept 3, 2005.
His version of City of New Orleans was tearful, but uplifting at the same time. There was not a dry eye in the stadium. Willie Nelson is a grass-roots human being that has his share of challenges that he has overcome by turning to the good people of America who embrace him as a brother.

Yes, it is a big hole in Willie ol' Gy-Tar. Hes been using the same guitar throught out his entire career.

Willie does have a very talented "family" band and several have been with him since the 70's. Guitar picker, Jody Payne has been "on the road" and "making music with his friend" Willie for many years. Willie and "the boys" (and the girls too) are always a joy to watch and listen to!

Willie is still at the top of his game. We just got back from his show in Torrington, CT. Willie and his Family put on a great show. Heartfelt performance, lots of energy and enthusiasm, AND Willie shook hands & signed autographs at the end of the show. The whole BBT drama took a back-seat to Willie's show. Billy-Bob & the Boxmasters did show up. Apparently they got over the Canadian Flu. They did an adequate job of opening for Willie. The Boxmasters music was just "OK" - Pretty much what you'd expect from an opening act.
Not great, but not bad. (Sorry, Billy-Bob. . . I get the whole thing of you wanting to focus on your music, but dude, it's just adequate) For what it's worth, we all enjoyed your set, and thought the Boxmasters sounded ok, but that's where it begins and ends. Don't really care that much about your music or your work in the movies, so why don't you just chill and enjoy doing what you do best ?
Anyhow, to get back to the subject of Willie Nelson's show, it was great, as it always is.
