M Ward @ Castle Clinton, NYC | Pics

M. Ward played a free show at Castle Clinton National Monument in NYC on Thursday July 21st, 2005. His backing band was Norfolk and Western featuring ex-Decemberist Rachel Blumberg on drums. It's the second time I saw M. Ward with N&W (the first was at Bowery Ballroom), and I think that Rachel's addition to Ward's band is the single greatest thing to come out of the Decemberists lineup change.

* The standing room-only show was perfect in every way.
* Former Ward collaborator Conor Oberst was in the audience.
* Transistor Radio is one of my favorite albums this year.

nice pics.
it was quite a sweet show. thanks for the link too.
the show at maxwells the next night was excellent as well but this one was far superior in presenting M. ward and his band.
but if you like rachel, you probably would have loved seeing Norfolk & Western, as well as her encore Ukelyle cover of "You Ain't Nothing But a Hound Dog"
