Scissor Sisters & CYHSY at Mercury Lounge last night

Regina Spektor played Tonic last night (July 27, 2005) (photos to follow).
Scissor Sisters (Portion Control), Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and Maxi Geil played Mercury Lounge.

My plan was to see Regina @ Tonic followed by Scissor Sisters @ ML. I have/had enough chances to CYHSY this summer (and honestly Maxi wasn't considered in the equation). Regina's set was thoroughly satisfying, as was Scissor Sisters (Bridget Jones) two weeks ago at Mercury Lounge. With that in mind, I sold my tickets to someone hoping for a miracle outside Mercury Lounge at 11:00 (right b4 SS went on).

Fluxblog was at the show...
"Have no fear, Scissor Sisters fans - their next album is going to be fabulous. All six of the new songs performed last night were instantly catchy and lovable, especially the jaunty banjo romp "Can't Decide" and "Everybody Wants The Same Thing," which received the most rapturous audience response to an unreleased song that I've ever witnessed..."

"Clap Your Hands Say Yeah didn't seem quite right coming between the stylish, high energy disco pop sets by Maxi Geil and the Scissor Sisters, but outside of that context, they played a fine if not particularly memorable set of songs that recalled at various points David Byrne, Jonathan Richman, Violent Femmes, and all manner of indie pop from Elephant Six to 80s New Zealand to present-day Pacific Northwest but mainly sounded like the Arcade Fire crossbred with The Shins. (Not such a shock that they would catch on so quickly given that math, right?)..."

What Was So Scary Once Is Now A Little Bit Quaint

maxi was pretty aweful. CYHSY was very interesting and for my first time all I can say is that i really enjoyed it. not sure how it compared to older shows but Jen said they keep getting better. and jen knows these things they say. :p

Scissors: they were so entertaining. great performance. not sure if i'd listen to their album though

Damn, it was raining men last night at the Scissors show!
And CYHSY were really good. I've heard the hype for over a month so I figured I would be disappointed but I was pleasantly surprised.

Hey BV, do you know of any blogs that have pictures from the show last night? thanks

cyhsy were excellent. you look a bit like the lead singer, I think.

the sisters were amazing, just as good as last week. I spent the show next to david lachapelle and his honey, faye dunaway and amanda lepore. that was odd, but it made perfect sense, really.
