Mr. Brownstone Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Guns N' Roses & Satanicide are three bands I hold dear to my heart. Ends up they're more related that you might imagine (sort of).

It starts with Mr. Brownstone, "the world's greatest GnR tribute" band. "How do they look? Like Axl, Duff, Izzy, Slash and Steven Adler—20 years ago. How do they sound? Tighter than a 13-year-old groupie. The vibe? Hormonal—not a dry panty in the house." [NY Press]

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah A peak at Mr. Brownstone's link page reveals a list of "bands featuring members of Mr. Brownstone." Two in particular caught my eye: Clap Your Hands Say Yeah & Heather.

Given the center-stage attention Clap Your Hands Say Yeah's been getting, I could have titled this post, "Sean Greenhalgh from Clap Your Hands Say Yeah plays Axl Rose in Guns N' Roses cover band," BUT to me there's more to the story.

Satanicide Heather are "some dudes from NYC that play some fuckin’ rock n’roll!!!" More importantly, Heather "is a new musical project from the members of Satanicide," and Satanicide kicks serious ass.

SO, Satanicide + CYHSY + some other dudes = Mr. Brownstone = Guns n' Roses. And there you have it.

Did I mention that Hair Supply is a Heavy Metal Air Supply cover band featuring members of Satanicide? yes, I did.

I saw Mr. Brownstone two years ago at Tribeca Rock Club. Close your eyes and you might as well have been on the Sunset Strip circa '88. They were that good.

The title should have read: "Is there any limit to Sean Greenhalgh's talent, creativity, and dare I say it, genius? Also, he's a hott goddamn piece of ass" or somesuch.

This comes as no surprise to me. A dirty secret is that many musicians who play in original bands also double in cover bands to make $, especially in markets outside of New York and LA whereas this kind of music isn't as accepted and well-liked. I wonder if the guy from CYHSY still plays with Mr. Brownstone now, though.

Too bad 90% of the kids like this shit in an 'ironic' way...Appetite for Destruction belongs in the same pantheon as the 2 NY Dolls records, as Exile on Main St, as Raw Power...Izzy Stradlin fucking rules.

I would never have guess the CYHSY and GnR connection. Have you heard of a band called Ezra Furman and the Harpoons? You might like them. They are a lot like CYHSY. You can listen to them here:
