Prince Paul with Cool Calm Pete, Harlem Shakes, Head Set & Alec Ounsworth @ Pianos TONIGHT. Prince Paul of De La Soul, Gravediggaz & Handsome Boy Modeling School headlining, Alec Ounsworth of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah opening, and what appears to be a solid lineup in between. (not properly highlighted in my Gothamist post this week)

Shout Out Louds & The Redwalls @ Mercury Lounge on August 7th: I never got past my first few listens of the Shout Out Louds CD, but I know a lot of people are excited for this show that was added after the August 8th one sold out.

Weird War & Good Morning @ Mercury Lounge on August 5th: I lost all interest in Weird War after seeing them play the Drag City Christmas Party at Bowery Ballroom in December 2004.

Smog and Feathers @ Bowery Ballroom on August 8th. I like his music, and I've especially been digging the new album, but after also seeing Smog at the Drag City Christmas Party, I'm not very motivated to spend $15 on his own headlining show.

Wilderness @ Mercury Lounge on August 26th: I want to go to this show. I don't have a solid opinion on this band yet, but have listnened to the album a few times since Pitchfork added them to their 'Best New Music.'

Hot Snakes @ Bowery Ballroom on August 9th. Their last NYC show ever.

Q and Not U @ Knitting Factory on Sept 20th early & Sept 20th late. Their last NYC shows ever.

"After a six-year hiatus, the Olivia Tremor Control reformed to play at the Vincent Gallo-curated All Tomorrow's Parties in England this past April; now, they've announced select tour dates in the U.S." [Pitchfork] @ Bowery Ballroom August 2nd & 3rd.

Xiu Xiu & Frog Eyes & Yellow Swans @ Bowery Ballroom September 2nd. I'm a fan of both Xiu Xiu and Frog Eyes. Their live shows are great, so there's a good chance I'll be at this show.

Benevento Russo Duo plus Drums & Tuba @ Bowery Ballroom on September 8th. My jam band lovin' friend insists I not miss this.

Seu Jorge @ Bowery Ballroom on September 11th & 12th. See previous post.

Wilderness are a must. Even if you're leaning to "not sold" on the album, the stage show will do some things for you. I can't believe how much sound comes out of them.

I'm also intrigued by that Wilderness show and am considering getting tix. I think their cd is quite good and deserved a decent pitchfork review.

Another Merc show that I think is worth checking out is The Most Serene Republic - Wed 8/24. I can't get enough of Underwater Cinematographer and any BSS/Stars/Arts & Crafts fan should give them a listen.

it's not fair to judge smog on that christmas party show. that rotating lineup sucked, there was no way to maintain the mood. and mood is half the battle at a smog show. so much better when he gets to play his own full set.
