Across The Pond Concerts in Brooklyn & Staten Island

"Some of the top names in rock have signed on for the inaugural Across the Pond concerts, which will be held simultaneously at Keyspan Park in Brooklyn, N.Y., and Richmond County Bank Ballpark in Staten Island, N.Y., Billboard.com can reveal. Both venues will host shows on Oct. 1-2, with the Pixies, Oasis, the Killers and Beck set to appear on yet-to-be-determined bills.

Other early confirmations for Across the Pond include Gang Of Four, Jet, Belle & Sebastian and the New York Dolls. "The complete lineup of talent will be staggering," says Jim Glancy, president of show promoter Ron Delsener Presents." [Billboard] (thx daniel)

I really hope this turns out as good as it sounds.

Posted by danfun | August 1, 2005 10:55 AM

Hopefully Pixies, Beck, and Gang of Four are at Keyspan. Trash like Oasis, The Killers, and Jet belong on Staten Island.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2005 10:55 AM

trash-talk like the previous post doesn't even deserve acknowledgement...get a clue, seriously.

Posted by Jorge | August 1, 2005 11:35 AM

I could say the same to you buddy, those bands are terrible. I also love when people point out how something doesn't deserve acknowledgement by acknowledging it.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2005 11:46 AM

I, for one, hereby acknowledge and encourage trash talk about Oasis, Jet and The Killers. Those trend-surfing tools are churning out the car commercial soundtracks of tomorrow.

Posted by Max Power | August 1, 2005 12:11 PM

I think you mean I-Pod commercials

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2005 12:23 PM

I-Pods today, Arby's tomorrow.

Posted by Maxxx | August 1, 2005 12:25 PM

I was addressing your comment on Staten Island more than the bands...once again, clueless. As for the bands, Pixies and GO4 are the only note-worthy bands.

Posted by Jorge | August 1, 2005 12:30 PM

I whole-heartedly support the 2nd comment. Put the trash where it belongs.

Posted by Mike Neuman | August 1, 2005 12:30 PM

Once again indeed, Jorge, I could be calling you clueless. And vague. If you meant Staten Island then you should have said Staten Island. I do believe my membership card to the Local 25 Mind Readers Union has expired. And are you denying that there is trash on Staten Island?

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2005 12:38 PM

And I also agree with Jorge's last comment.

Posted by Mike Neuman | August 1, 2005 12:50 PM

Jorge and Neuman: No love for Beck?

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2005 12:52 PM

No vagueness on my part, your original comment was clueless whichever way it was meant to be interpreted, but moreso, on the S.I. dig (take a look outside, there's trash everywhere.)

Oh, and I'll end this here, music appreciation or lack thereof is a matter of subjectivity, so your dis' on those bands is inane and useless.

Posted by Jorge | August 1, 2005 1:00 PM

Beck's alright, I've seen him a couple of times...just haven't been feeling his last couple of releases.

Posted by Jorge | August 1, 2005 1:04 PM

theres a reason the staten island ferry is free. noone would pay to go there. im with the 2nd comment.

Posted by gary | August 1, 2005 1:04 PM

Being an elitist snob is extremely tacky, at. Shouldn't we be psyched that we have the opportunity to see some good music (whether you like all the bands on the bill or not) instead of looking down on a place that is obvioulsy welcoming music lovers?

Posted by cc | August 1, 2005 1:14 PM

Posted by cc | August 1, 2005 1:15 PM

Gary, wow, you astound me with your idiocy...I thought I was done with this comments section but the utter lack of intelligence in your post requires retort...first and foremost, have you ever set foot on S.I. besides hopping on the "free" (where do you think your city taxes go or are you one of the unemployed) ferry service back and forth? Secondly, I know many, many people that would gladly pay to go to S.I.

Posted by Jorge | August 1, 2005 1:16 PM

i grew up there

Posted by gary | August 1, 2005 1:17 PM

Assuming you're departing from Manhattan, the trip to Staten Island will be a lot quicker and more fun (booze!) than taking a slow ass train through Brooklyn. With that said, I still hope the Pixies and Beck play in Brooklyn.

Posted by db | August 1, 2005 1:29 PM

well then, your opinion is valid, not like most people who rag on it and have never been there... I happen to like S.I. and am glad to hear that there is a possibility of this type of concert taking place there.

Posted by Jorge | August 1, 2005 1:32 PM

Jorge: you're an ass. obviously I do have a clue if I have even heard of those bands and come to a conclusion that they are terrible. And last I checked there was a lot of trash on Staten Island.

"so your dis' on those bands is inane and useless" - no, you attempting to negate my OPINION is inane and useless.

Your hipocracy runs deep. Take a look in the mirror, loser.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2005 2:09 PM

i love lamp

Posted by gary | August 1, 2005 2:13 PM

whoever you are, I won't stoop to your level and start name calling (ie, 'ass', 'loser')...

my point was made, no need to continue, keep living in your 'hip-ocracy'... try picking up a dictionary sometime.

Posted by Jorge | August 1, 2005 2:39 PM

gary, liked the 'anchorman' reference...

"LOUD NOISES!!!!!"

-Brick-

Posted by Jorge | August 1, 2005 2:43 PM

If I spelled it right, then would you realize that you are being it?

"I won't stoop to your level" - more hYpocrIsy, I do believe it was YOU who called ME clueless...

and I'm not calling you an ass, I'm labeling you one. Ass.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2005 2:48 PM

"If I spelled it right, then would you realize that you are being it?"

that was REALLY weak. maybe you should stop "internet fighting" Mr. I Leave My Name Blank, cause you're not very good at it.

Posted by cc | August 1, 2005 2:59 PM

um, no.

I 'labeled' your comment clueless and not you, per se, although I'm starting to think that the shoe might fit.

-Ass-

Posted by Jorge | August 1, 2005 2:59 PM

I smell another Ozzfest thread...

Posted by Mike Neuman | August 1, 2005 3:04 PM

so basically the trash talk isn't over oasis, the killers and jet, right? it's over staten island?

Posted by dave park | August 1, 2005 3:17 PM

What's with all the fighting??

You guys do realize that Belle and Sebastian are gonna be playing New York!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2005 3:20 PM

I a big fan of their records, but B&S are without question one of the worst live bands I have every seen!!! Sorry folks, but its true.

Posted by doggieballs | August 1, 2005 3:41 PM

Hey cc, I made that comment as a last ditch effort for "ASS" to realize the error of his ways, knowing full well that it was probably hopeless.

and if I attached some arbitrary name, like Steve or Pete, would that make my comments any more or less valid? please... that, my friend, is weak.

Posted by Steve or Pete | August 1, 2005 3:42 PM

Be warned - B&S are without question one of the worst live bands i have ever seem.

Posted by doggieballs | August 1, 2005 3:44 PM

Oasis are the best rock band at that festival.

Posted by Brandon | August 1, 2005 7:56 PM

this was good natured fun until that last comment about oasis being the best rock band. i think we can all agree(jorge and at included) those words are crossing the line. i have a feeling liams hitting the boards under the guise of brandon. please, no one call me any names. my ego is already in ICU.

Posted by gary | August 2, 2005 3:06 AM

I can't find information on this thing anywhere.

Posted by Wordy Rappinghood | August 2, 2005 12:14 PM

From Pitchfork:

"No word yet on pricing, or whether the admission fees will include earplugs for Jet's performance. Or noseplugs for the stench of Staten Island."

HAHAHAHA take that Jorge!

Posted by Steve or Pete | August 3, 2005 9:54 AM

yeah, I saw that this morning and laughed my ass off...f the fork too!

Posted by Jorge | August 3, 2005 2:21 PM

apparently acording to the staten island advance, the bands will play both venues in alternating days? bloody strange

Posted by tj | August 5, 2005 2:08 AM

It'll be like Reading and Leeds. Coney's Saturday lineup will be Staten's Sunday, and VV. Thing is tho...Beck's opening for the Stones one of those days. So he's either out or not doing both like the rest.

Posted by Jeff | August 5, 2005 8:49 AM

Sounds great to me. This way I don't have to step foot on that garbage heap and at the same time, don't miss any of the bands, well except for the ones that are only playing one day at Staten Island.

Posted by Steve or Pete | August 5, 2005 9:04 AM

lake trout is scheduled, according to their website, to do one of the s. island days. if anyone cares.

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2005 9:07 AM
