Amadou and Mariam | CMJ 2005

Amadou et Mariam "You left Amadou and Mariam off your list for tonight monday this show was awesome. david Byrne was at the early show and I managed to sneek into the late show with my early show ticket stub. Awesome shows! They will be back on September 15 at the Hiro. I know it wil be a busy week but people should check them out. They are a blind couple from Mali that play some mean funk afrobeat rock'n'roll." [danfun - in the comments]

"Bagayoko met Mariam Doumbia in the mid-'70s at the Institute for the Young Blind in Bamako, the capital of Mali. Their connection, both romantic and musical, was immediate. "She sang, and taught students to sing and dance," Bagayoko said. "I had played (guitar) in many orchestras in Mali, including (Salif Keita's) Ambassadeurs du Motel."" [Montreal Gazette]

There is a huge article about them and the Joe's Pub show in today's New York Times.
