Green Day is still punk. What other bands have Their sound? Their style? Their lyrics? And don't you dare say any of those poser punk bands like Good Charlotte, Simple Plan or New Found Glory. Green Day has always been who they are since the begining. Yeah they sold out from the get go, but isn't punk about not conforming, not doing what your told, going against everything. So in a way, selling out would be a punk thing. Also they have songs like the famous, Time Of Your Life (Good Riddence) a song that isn't even close to rock. It's a soft ballad about growing up. Now what punk band woul do that? How about a real punk band. A punk band that will go against punk. Now that is punk! And as far as a movie goes, Hell Yeah! Bring this story to life. The Album is simply superb. The story that it tells needs to be brought out and shown to the world. So I say screw you all that oppose.

As for Green Day forgetting their "indie roots".... they're not INDIE. They're full out PUNK rock, with soul. Sure, they may dress "pretty" and may be making a lot of money, but in all that aside they are the only artist(s) out there who are still staying true to their musical roots in everything they do. People still think they're sell-outs because they decided to take their talents further than playing in smelly old basements. Yea, that was fun, and I'm sure they'd still do it to this day, but there is the wanting to grow, to reach out to audiances which they wouldn't have been able to if they stayed put in those damn basements.

I have a huge amount of respect for everything they do in their lives, and if anyone bothered to get to know them through interviews, TV appearences or just any footage etc, you would know that they are brilliant, down to earth family guys who never forgot who they truly are, and where they came from.

I know the whole story behind the album and im pretty sure that this should be a good film. For those who dont know the story:

all right so theres this teenager named Jesus of Suburbia (JOS)whos under some serious teenage stress. So JOS runs away from home.

He lives on the streets, does drugs, and eventually meets this dude named St.Jimmy. They hang out together and stuff until they meet this girl named Watshername. JOS falls in love with her, but after a while Watshername's got JOS convinced that hes not the Jesus of Suburbia.

Whatsername leaves the story and JOS doesnt know where to go. He relizes that running away wasnt a good idea and decides to go back home.

St. Jimmy, who also doesnt know what to do, kills himself.

the songs extroardinary girl, letterbomb, wake me up, and watshername are all about how JOS is sad that Watshername is gone.

And thats basicly what the whole movie is going to be about. Thers a lot more to the story, but considering this is a comment, i havta make it short.

whether or not green day is still punk is not the issue. The issue is whether or not American Isiot will make a good movie. Tommy would have made a good movie. Anyone who's seen the movie will tell you that it didn't. I'm not saying it won't make a good movie and I'm not saying it will. Being a fringe member of the punk sub-culture (as well as many other sub-cultures) and first and foremost an a-political and unbiased music and film lover, I can say that this has potential for being a brilliant and groundbreaking film. However, as I alluded to earlier, so did Tommy. It did better on broadway. It all comes down to who directs, who stars, and who wites the screenplay. Nothing more, nothing less. Anything else is aging wanna-be punks who can't let go of bullshit nostalgia. They see a band they used to idolize and they wish for it to be the same band it was ten years ago. A little commercial success and they bandy about terms like "sell-out" and suchforth. So caught up in sub-cultures and the argument of what is and is not punk as though it really matters in the great scheme of things, they refuse to recognize decent music when they hear, or a compelling storyline, pulled from true life experiences (before you sling mud at billy joe, remind yourself of the inspiration behind "welcome to paradise"). Nobody seems to notice that punk is dead, nothing will ever be truly "punk" again, and it's time to just let go and enjoy the music.

Enough ranting, back to drinking.

The Productshop article seems to have been taken off their Web site. I'd like to address the allegation that Green Day killed Lookout! Records. About a year ago, Chris Applegren, Lookout's president, posted an open letter on the label's Web site. He admitted that he had been using money that should've been going to artists, notably Green Day, as royalty payments in order to finance the recording and promotion of new records. He accepted the blame for Lookout's dire financial straits and absolved Green Day of any responsibility.

Okay a few things... I know I'm late posting this I kinda dropped off the charts of Green Day for a short time. Anyways, when is the Movie coming out???????? It should be ****ing awesome!!!!!! And any of you losers who think you know what punk is and think that bands Like Green Day, Simple Plan, and Sum 41 aren't punk you have know idea what your talking about Green Day most punk band ever!
