Group Sounds @ Pianos, NYC | Pics

Bands looking for PR tips ought to study Group Sounds closely. As YANP put it over a month ago, "they've only been a band for a little under a year. If this is truely the case, I've gotta give 'em a hand. In that short bit of time, they've managed to work their way onto Fuse, into the New York Post and playing alongside Hot Hot Heat and The Kills." It doesn't end there. A peak at their press page reveals quotes from Time Out, Flavorpill, tripwire, and even Manic Mess (with whom I agree about the fake british accent).

Lots of my friends growing up were in bands. I was always part of the posse. The posse travels with the band from show to show, sings along, and often fools industry people into thinking the band has a huge following outside of their hometown. I sensed a posse in full effect at Pianos Wednesday night (August 17, 2005). Many members of the posse joined the band on stage for the last song including the moustached man with the guitar who is not actually a member the band.

I am neither for or against this band. (want to hate them...song stuck in my head...unorginal...but who's original these days...over confidence...or is it stage presence...who writes "say thanks" on a setlist...well actually I guess you should always be prepared...). Decide for yourself. Watch the catchy/humorous/obnoxious/genius video they've got floating around the Internet. You can catch them at their NYC Pianos residency on Aug. 24th, Aug 31st, and Sept. 7th, 2005.

More media and tour dates at their website. Their EP is for sale at Insound.

i had a good time. They made my girl so wet she let me give her a rusty kazoo. Thanks guys!

These guys have a fun show, they don't swoon and pout, they play their rock and roll for fun. True rock guitar riffs, frentic stage presence and some Ramonesque pop-py songs make this band great. Only the devout white belt hipsters can refuse to dance. Where do I get jumped into their posse you speak of?

Song is horrible.

GS Posse Rules!!!!

Yikes, could there be any more horse-faced JAPpy bitches up at that show? UES invasion of indie-yuppie rock is ON!

be warned readers, any positive group sounds comments are most likely members of the band or paid writers.
sad.

Will the holyier than thou brooklyn hipsters stay in their capitalistic hippie haze across the river please. I'd rather see some uptown girls onstage than your pie faced fat girlfriend who has a couple interesting tattoos having yet another beer and a yearning for more emo or cover songs. Though Group sounds are not wearing white belts to the pabst parties, they play str8 ahead bouncy rock that gets you dancing. After all isn't that what rock is all about. I ain't in the band, and I am definetly not getting paid to write this so swallow that mr. aquabung.

as someone who is quite "friendly" with this band, i can tell you that all the people who like them right now are their friends, and they work very very hard to get them to every show. they deserve credit for that, but all the good stuff (fuse, page 6, etc) is all bullshit. one of the guys works for fuse and when a band cancelled, he got them on to talk on the air, not play. then they are friends with the guys who write page 6, so they called in a favor. but everybody knows it is hype that they are perpetuating themselves, and not any real fans talking about them.
THEY HAD 5 PEOPLE IN THE AUDIENCE WHEN THEY WERE THE THIRD ACT AT BOWERY FOR THE KILLS, AND THEY GOT BOOED WHEN THEY OPENED FOR HOT HOT HEAT WHO STILL TALK ABOUT HOW MUCH THEY HATE GROUP SOUNDS.
bottom line is that the band is ok, but they are never going anywhere and the self hype just wont work. every a&r man that they are trying to impress has passed.
and yes, everyone on hear writing these glorious comments about them are the band themselves. it makes me mad and so i have to post.

As a member of this band I'll post and say that all of this is a load of crap. Firstly I take offense to what kind of crowd you guys are trying to say we pull. Yes our fanbase includes our friends, but we've been playing a ton of shows for such a long time that they wouldn't still be coming out anymore if they didn't genuinely like our music. Secondly that isn't even 1/2 our fanbase. As for the Page 6 and Fuse stuff that is complete nonsense. After the Page 6 thing did come out though I met the writer and think he's a great guy and he (belive it ot not) actually loves our music. It's our fault for being a good and smart band. We work harder than your average emo shit band on both our music and on our press because we actually believe in what we are doing. I bet 1/2 of you are in bands, but does that mean that you are going to make an appearance on television because you might know a person who works at the station? Everything that we've accomplished is because of us. We're not pretentious buzz-word named bands with clever hipster appeal. If you like the music then enjoy it - if not then get over it. Every person I know who hasn't been into the music still has the songs stuck in their head...I couldn't hum a bar of 9/10 of the ny music I hear nightly.
Oh and on the A&R tip - we're doing just fine thank you look for a full album release and tour in the fall.
xoxo

So I got an email telling me to check out the word wars about Group Sounds on some bk vegan site. I'll tell you if you are a rock n roller and are taking your advice from a vegan in brooklyn, you need to check your sources; but this little battle is hilarious. Seems no one likes the band but everyone wants to talk about em. I've never even seen this band. I did spot them on the Page: something about their keys guy going nude in the a tub (that's rock). Can't wait to see a fight at Piano's next Wednesday. Oh and by the way I am an Irish chick who thinks the guitarist in the black shirt is hot.

You sir, win the award for the stupidist commenter ever. And that is saying a lot, see the ozzfest post.

Id appreciate it if the guy who made the horse-faced comment would introduce himself to me at next Wednesdays show. Im gonna break your teeth and then violate you with an autographed drumstick.

I heard them NYC Jews got good music and good media smarts...Either way, I'll be at the next show to burn a cross in protest of Jews making music and controlling the media...
Good work spreading the gospel of hate Mr. Queens Pescitarian!

As promised above, I stopped by Piano's to check the Group Sounds boys out: I had a blast. My girlfriend and I danced our asses off, made eyes at the guitarist (who I just want to kiss kiss kiss) and then watched the band smooch every girl, lady and female in the place (the GS boys are male sluts) and I want Jesse. I think I'm temporarily in love (which is a lyric in a great song they have). Where do I get a teen beat poster with Group Sounds on it for my bedroom?

wow. such animosity! anyways, i've seen GS a few times, and the last show they played was on my birthday at pianos and was nothing but fun. jesse even bought me a birthday drink after! all you haters really need to find something better to do with your time. i really don't like coffee, but you don't see me spending my free time writing up starbucks petitions.

i love when people come on to blogs and post anonymously about things that they have no idea about. yes there music must be bad. so bad that i have heard it in the background of several shows on MTV. so bad that other TV shows have expressed interest in having their music on air. so bad that every person I play their songs for love them instantly.
You think that this self generated buzz is bullshit? all of these media outlets are just going to listen to a bunch of guys trying to make a name for themselves if they lack talent? i dont think so. clearly they are able to generate buzz themselves because the product they are pushing happens to be great.
