Mellie Carballo If you live in NYC, you've see her picture on the cover of almost every newspaper (specifically the picture to the left of both victims). You've probably heard or made a joke about bad heroin. You've read about it in Gothamist, Gawker, Newsday, the Daily News, the NY Sun, and especially the NY Post.

If you frequent club nights featured on Last Night's Party like Misshapes and Trash, you may already know how this frontpage story hit close to home...

"But she also was a fashionista whose sexy picture graced a banner on the edgy Web site Last Night's Party, and was someone who would have gotten a "twisted kick" out of the headlines her death generated, a club land buddy said." [Daily News]

Mellie Carballo "The last few weeks in NYC clubland were tumultuous. The L.E.S. was abuzz with the bad news of the ODs of two 18-year-old girls—one of whom was a familiar face on the club and bar scene. Two weeks ago, Mellie Carballo and her high school friend Maria Pesantez were found dead with a combination of heroin, cocaine, and alcohol in their systems. (Since August 10, four others have died of apparent ODs in downtown Manhattan.) Though The New York Times reported the two met their friends at the Dark Room at 10 a.m., a Dark Room spokesperson says they reviewed videotape of that night shot both inside and outside the club: "We watched the tapes and they weren't at the club. And we were closed at 10 a.m."

Despite being underage, Carballo was a regular on the downtown club scene. A tribute to her with an accompanying photograph briefly appeared on the website for the weekly party Trash! (It has since been taken down.) (NOTE: It's there) On lastnightsparty.com, she was pictured with Motherfucker's Michael T. The site's photographer, Merlin Bronques, wrote: "I met Mellie at Beauty Bar a few months ago. She loved having her picture taken, and she made any photographer look good. She called me a week before she died to say that the panoramic pinup I took of her at 'Bust' a few days ago was her 'favorite picture ever,' and we scheduled to shoot again at her house this week. She was buried in her yellow '100% Mellie' Fightcats T-shirt right next to Jam Master Jay and not too far from Aaliyah, Malcolm X, and Christopher Reeve. I'll miss her." [Tricia Romano]

i knew mellie personally through random yet frequent outings in the lower east side club scene. the circumstances around her death has seriously shaken me considering the fact that me and mellie on a number of occasions, in various locations, indulged on numerous "vices." it has been a wake up call. although our correspondence and crossings were sporadic, i must say that mellie is one of the few in the lower east side scene (and beyond) who legitimately exuded a genuine and cheerful demeanor and was a shining star among those who knew her. it's sad that right before she passed we had planned to meet up more, and it's a shame that i did not get to share more moments with this wonderful person. she'll be sorely missed.

there's a lower east side club scene?

Posted by sam | August 26, 2005 11:22 AM

why didn't the papers here blow up the pictures of the other people who died of heroin OD's that day? were they not pretty enough? did they not come from the right families? why don't they blow up pictures whenever some poor person from the ghetto dies from a crack/coke/heroin overdose? is it less tragic? we wish to protect our children from the ills of drugs, but only when their pretty faces carry so much potential.

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2005 3:00 PM

who gives a fuck about this? people die everyday and most of those people died at the fault of someone else's mistakes, not of their own like these druggies.......

I'm glad that I'm not the only person who feels this way. These girls were young and dumb and they got the attention that they wanted. I feel sorry for their familes, because it's hard to lose someone. But when Tyrone the crackhead in Harlem dies of an overdose no one will give a shit. No matter what color your skin is or what University you're registered for classes in the Fall at, we all have beatings hearts. They were just like any other junkies.

Posted by Trisha | August 26, 2005 7:47 PM

Tyrone in Harlem? How thinly veiled do you like your racism? And, the girls are dead and there are no more lessons for them to learn. Your preaching and disparaging remarks are pointless and time should be spent on positive proactive thinking not denigrating the dead' regardless of the unfortunate decisions they may have made.

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2005 8:34 PM

Everyone seems to overlook the fact that these girls should have been locked up for 20-25 for possession of cocaine (or whatever harsh guidelines for crack are still on the books). They should have been disenfranchised from their right to vote. They should have re-emerged into society without any job skills and a need to "hustle" for the rest of their lives, maybe become lifelong prostitutes with a cycle of drug abuse, prison time and selling themselves...

Posted by Chris | August 27, 2005 6:43 AM

When the face of drug abuse is black, it gets demonized ten ways to hell. There was no sympathy for those poor black mothers who, in their misery and need to self-medicate, happened to have addictions to crack cocaine. They should have received help for their addictions and been placed in rehab. Instead, they were literally snatched from the emergency room after giving birth to their babies and locked up in jail like wild animals. Some never even got the chance to hold their babies. Afterwards, they were sentenced to needlessly harsh sentences, many that did not include any sort of drug rehabilitation program.

When two white girls who happened to be registered at NYU overdose from the exact same drug, they receive sympathy and attention and it is marked as a tragedy.

This society has a long way to go.

This is Mellies Cousin. I wish alot of you would know what you were talking about before writing such awful comments about someones daughter, sister or friend which could have easily been close to any of you. If you would take the time to find out a little about Mellie or her family you would know that Mellie's family is very upset at the fact that the other deaths from heroine were not made as public. In addition to this one of the reasons why Mellies's death was so publicized was because instead of sitting around crying when they have all the right to during this aweful time..her parents and sister made it a point to alert as much media as possible, hoping that this information would prevent any thing like this from happening to anyone else, ANYONE else. No one else should have to go through what this my family has been through. Her parents are also interested in starting a foundation to help others. I would like to know what you are doing to help things like this from happening to others aside from complaining.

It is truly amazing that two close friends Maria
pesantez and Mellie Carbello had to fall victims
to the demoralization of the evils in today's society. People often try to point fingers at
the attitude and behavior of the youth of today,
but I cannot help to feel very sorry for these
girls and their families. They are definitly
in my prayers.

Could someone tell stupid ass white bitches to stay out of Harlem.Whitey moves into the neighborhood bringing their materialism & heroine, six months later their cracked out. Meanwhile when i have to exit the subway, coming home from work,i have to step over their derelict asses.Sitting on the ground in front of the Apollo theater 10:30 at night pretending to read a map.Going threw garbage cans & shit.Maybe i should be a bit more open minded someone has to fuck the drug dealers.Fuckin' whores & junkies. There are all these stupid ass white whores wanting to be down, trying to act like what they think is black, coming to Harlem with their titts hanging out. These whores fuck with dudes in & out of the projects that black women wouldn't dare to touch.I've seen them with crackhead dudes, they don't care.Miss uptown girl getting out of her yellow cab with a fuckin' crackhead.Thats why niggas like that go to white whores.Everybody on this side of town is aware of the HIV rate among corny ass black dudes(especially in the projects.)Theses dudes have no education,no goals,no hope & mothers on dope & welfare. So they get ding bat, cracked out white bitches they can whore out and hopefully use as their come up.Those bitches got off easy.

Looks who's talking, all you black hoes are the same too except even dirtier. You talk alot of shit about white bitches with their tits all out, you hoes got your fat and nasty asses all out and think its cute. Thats the only way you girls lurk for attention since noone else wants your asses you have to settle and hoe around. And I do admit most Uptown White girls are the same, except they have more of a cleaner and presentable image!!

The only black women i know are educated and respectable. We do not walk around with our asses hanging out,not at all. Your ignorant ass must be talking about those lame images you see while watching your MTV.
F.Y.I, i am a bad ass black chick who is wanted by white men, black men & everything in between. If you really want to know the last white man i dated used to love for me to sit on his face so he could eat my nice black fat ass. However,my focus is not the attention of any man but on my education and career.
I may have even taken your response as insulting or in the least annoying had i actually understood all the misspelled words.Just another tacky ass white bitch with a wasted education, you probably blew your way threw college.
Also i know your an idiot, it just like a dumb white broad to say something like"...except they have a cleaner more presentable image".Your talking about whores having an image.I would rather have no image, than one of a junkie whore. Your dumb ass probably thinks being a heroine user is glamorous.

this beautiful creature was my best friend. and to be quite honest, she did drugs but wasnt a druggie...she was smart, funny, open minded, understanding, creative, and as sweet as they come. the girl had it all. she was and will remain the best friend that i ever had. anyone graced with her presence or friendship should consider themselves lucky, you'll never again meet anyone like her.
losing her has been the hardest thing in the world for me, but she always said se never wanted to be old. it was a fucked up way to die, but she went out a star. rock on mel, i love you.

So i won't begin to disappointment you now. I have fun when i write. I fell over laughing when i read your response.
First of all, I have never been with a white man. I don't like the way they smell. I also find the texture of a caucasians skin to the touch repulsive, its papery & thin. You people don't age very well either.I believe your materialistic or racist and extremely low in the morals department.
Secondly, your a dumb bitch to waste your time responding to someone who does not give a flying fuck about your opinion.I will never be any of the things you said .You go on living your life in a bubble, hoping that because i am a black women i am imperfect. Its bitches like you who want to be like me. Thats why your lame asses are always looking for a black dude to hook up with. You want a big black dick to suck. You want to be black, trying to act black. Find yourself bitch.
Your a fucking bore & just another racist white whore. Ha Ha Ha.

And to the guy who said he didn't know any dumb black women, give me a fucking break. I know dumb black women, dumb white women, dumb hispanic women, dumb japanese women... dumb women (and of course dumb men--i don't want to come off as sexist, that's not the point) are everywhere. Surely you know one or two dumb black women, too.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2005 10:13 PM

First of all, I find it funny how eveyone keeps mentioning how two over priviledged white girls died of a drug overdose. Both girls come from low income families and both were hispanic. Whom one got into NYU due to an almost full scholarship. So people should get their facts straight.

It was very very unfortunate that they were so nieve. My heart prayers go out to there friends and family. I believe that both girls Mellie Carballo and Maria Pesantez would not have wanted there names dragged through the mud like this. I know if I had a child who died like this I would have been devistated. It does not matter what race they were or their financial situation, it is still a tragic circumstance and goes to show that there are very bad people living in this world of ours...

Posted by k | September 20, 2005 8:38 AM

well they were kind of privileged though. one got a nose job and the other got liposuction....how old were they?? 18??? then drugs,....what is this world coming to? things weren't this bad when I was in high school, not too long ago. pray for the world people.

Posted by mel | September 20, 2005 2:01 PM

If you have a job and a credit card you can afford anything, even a nose job. I'm from Long Island City Queens. One of the girls was from Jackson Heights. Believe me, Jackson Heights is not a priviledged area. Both girls fathers were blue collar workers.

I graduated from Highschool in 1988 and believe me, things were just as bad then. Did you forget about the 1960's? drugs were even more rampant then.

Posted by John T. | September 20, 2005 2:50 PM

Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2005 3:47 PM

you people have no respect for yourselves and each other. if you dont care about dont post how u dont care about it. whats are u a bunch of fucking retards? go make a blog about your whining ass. leave the comments here to be of the loss of the two girls. They make a big deal of it because they were little socialites of the LES, knowing celebrities etc. Look at what's happening to kate moss. shes a know coke head. why is she in the papers and not someone else across town being caught doing coke, is because its media baby. sometimes its a bitch! but we eat it up with a spoon sometimes more then 3 times a day.

The media willmake a big deal out of small or big things for moeny!! press!! shit sells! sex sells. wake up people. stop your bickering. say they were angels, some will say they werent some say they were wealthy some wouldnt race colors doesnt matter its that people in the industry knew these girls and would have kept the relationships they built with these girls if they were still alive today.

whatever the situation its sad to see people who could have had a good future and have it come to an early ended. there thats ur story.

R.I.P. Mellia and Maria.

Posted by John T. | September 20, 2005 4:01 PM

i went to school with these two girls, and the mockery you are making of their deaths on this webpage is revolting. yes, they made mistakes. i, and i'm sure everyone who knew them, would have hoped they would have put their intelligence to work before making some of the decisions they did. it is a tragedy what happened, and everyone on here saying the horrible things you have been saying shows what a low class person you are.
the fact that they went to Ferrer, "an all girl Catholic HS on the upper east side", while true does not put them in the "rich" category. that was my HS, the majority of us are from working class families who want a good education for their daughters. the fact that they were hispanic (not white.black.etc.) makes no diffference, it is an eye opener for all of us out here who are around their age and exposed to these temptations.
and maybe every overdose isnt publicized this way, but the family wanted to get the message out. and the fact of the matter remains..when two girls who seem to have it all die it hits home with a lot more people than a "crackhead on the street". These girls had more to live for, they had a life ahead of them...
i just hope they rest in peace, they will never ever be forgotten.

All of you should truly and honestly get your facts straight before you talk of ill of the dead in that manner. I did not know Mellie but I knew Maria, and she was a bright girl , whatever the circumstances of the situation may have been She was not a Junkie! Both girls came from hardworking families and the reason why their deaths got the attention was because there were two ex-cons involved...it made the storyline more complicated.. more investigation must be done. The circumstances aren't as clear as merely: they bought drugs and overdosed as in most of the other cases. TWO youngs girls died.

Posted by Anonymous | November 16, 2005 1:44 PM

Are you kidding me???? These girls have no one but themselves to blame, Im sorry but NO ONE stuck a needle in there arm or made them snort cocaine. They are drug user's.. no ifs ands or butts about it.. Im sorry that they died, dont get me wrong, my heart goes out to there family but come on people, these girls dont need to be put on a pedistal, It doesnt matter if you are white, black or purple or come from a good family, Heroin can and will destroy you, these girls are proof of that. I have read alot of these blogs and I have to say the lack of maturity by some of these people really make me sick.. Grow up people and get educated and stop the name calling.. were NOT in the 5th grade anymore.. please

to Mellie's mom:

Had you checked out "Lasnight's party" website before your daughter passed, she would still be with you. and instead of a nose job, how about modeling school to keep her busy?

how did you protect your daughter? Maybe is too late to check out the club's website. But if you do, you'll see what i'm talking about... But, we all make mistakes, yes, even moms. Except our "mistakes" affects others in a horrible way that sometimes take eternity to repair and sometimes, we can't make up for it. All moms know and sense things like this! if you didn't, maybe because you were too busy working too hard to pay for Mellie's nose job...

I think "non drug user", Post December 8th said it best when she said heroin can and will destroy you!
We need more mature people like that giving us advice, I have read where people say that these girls were "NOT" drug users but tried it a couple times. Try it once or try it 100 times, your still a drug user.
To Mellie and Maria's family, Im sorry you lost your children, as a mother I wouldnt want to lose my kids in any way exspecially to DRUGS, to all the other mothers who sit and say oh my child would never do that, it doesnt matter if your rich or poor, black or white, you need to open your eyes to the possibility that it CAN happen to your child.
I come from a well to do family and I am living proof that drugs can find its way into a very close nit family because my sister was on it for 4 yrs,she was a straight A student and went to church faithfully, trust me they are good at hiding it from the people that love them the most, we found out about her drug problem when she was rushed to the hospital from an Overdose, luckly the Drs were able to save her and my parents acted quickly to get her the help she needed, she is now in recovery and its been 2 yrs but she says that everyday is a struggle, She says that Heroin grabs onto you and wont let go, you have to be stronger than it all the time.
Please try to educate your children about this powerful drug and keep your eyes and ears open all the time.
God Bless!

some people are so eager to lay the blame at the parents doorstep, well this is where i have to say your wrong about that one, why is it always the mothers fault when there child dies from and OD???? why dont we lay the blame towards the slimy pieces of shit lowlife drug sellers who pray on young children to get them hooked so they can support these jackass's. If these creeps would not make it and sell it then we wouldnt have to worry about it being a problem, the problem with our system is these fuckers get caught and yes lose there "riches" and have to spend a few years in jail.. WHHHOOOO HOOOO, Big Fucking Deal..... I think they need to rot there fat asses away in prison and become Bubba's girlfriend.. But once there out of the pokie, guess what.. here's a shocker, there back to doing the same shit that got them put in there in the first place.. THEY DONT CARE about your child, my child or even there own child, they see them as money making machines..$$$$$$$$ anything for a buck right?

Strivingmom, where do you get off saying that ALL MOMS KNOW AND SENSE THINGS LIKE THIS, are you an expert on this? I THINK NOT, your just a wannabe so please until you have "actual" proof that ALL moms sense things like this..do us all a favor and shut the fuck up.

To answer your first question, YES, I am a mom to 3 boys.

I find it hard to believe that you are an "expert" on this because there is no way in hell you have asked every single mother on the face of the planet to begin with.
So why don't you start with all the mom's who have lost there child to a drug overdose and you will find that a very few if any at all knew that there child was on drugs or sensed it.

Your not stating a fact, your stating your own opinion on something that makes no sense at all.

All your doing is trying to make a mother who lost her child feel worse than she already does, would you like it if you were in her shoes and you were being blamed because you didnt "SENSE" it but then again according to you ALL mother's sense it.. *show me the proof*! sweetie pie. Then I will "HUSH".

After reading all the other post's I guess I am not the only sane person who think your comments were unjustified and unethical. Your so called facts were a rude and insensitive way to get to a mother who lost her child. I am not saying that these girls were perfect by any means, but grow some class and try to put yourself in there shoes,Your not as perfect as you let on... As a mother I would not want to lose my child in any way and I certainly wouldn't want or need some rude chick who act's like she knows everything about everyone telling me that it was my fault. WOW!..I read all the post's here and I am shocked at all the name calling and opinionated people. Although people have the right to it, sometimes it's just better to keep it to yourself. We are missing the point here, 2 young girls lost there lives, yes to stupid reason's which was there own doing but still, It COULD have been your child.
I can honestly say in my whole life I have NEVER tried drugs or even smoked cigaretts for that matter, I didnt come from a well off family, we were middle class but disfunctional as they come, we were far from perfect, not very close as a family should be, that kind of lifestyle wasn't for me, I saw it in my family and saw how it destroyed them, I have 4 kids who are my whole world, I can talk to them until I am blue in the face about drugs and guide them in the right direction but I can't hold there hand through life, they have to learn on there own, that is what makes them who they are.
All I can do at this point is try to educate my children in the right direction, and hope and pray they make the right choices in life. Just because these girls did drugs doesnt mean its the parent(s) fault. We need to get these drug dealers who are preying on our children off the streets and behind bar's where they belong.

These girls made a mistake that in the end cost them there lives, and now there parents are left with the emptyness that follows, they shouldnt be blamed for the death of there daughters, If you feel the need to blame someone, blame the drug dealers for supplying them this stuff....

its really sad that their are people who are talking about stuff they dont even know about. Mellie was NOT a druggie she was a great daughter, sister, cousin, neice, and, friend, and though she had faults..LIKE ALL OF US DO... HOW DARE YOU SAY SHE SHOULD BE IN THE GARBAGE THAT WAS MY FAMILY! WHO THE HELL ARE YOU...HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF SOMEONE SAID THAT ABOUT SOMEONE YOU LOVE SO MUCH THAT YOU STILL CRY EVERYDAY FOR THEM TO COME BACK.. YOU ARE DISGUSTING... HORRIBLE JUST HORRIBLE PEOPLE! YOU DONT EVEN KNOW THE SICKING PAIN HER WHOLE FAMILY IS GOING THROUGH. MELLIE IS OURS AND WE WILL NOT TOLERATE ANYONE TALKING SHIT ABOUT HER...WHY DONT YOU GET A HEART AND A LIFE AND TALK ABOUT SOMETHING YOU MIGHT HAVE A CLUE ABOUT BECAUSE WHEN COMES TO THIS YOU DONT KNOW SHIT

Posted by Anonymous | December 12, 2005 10:59 PM

PS STOP TALKING ABOUT MELLIE IN A DISGUSTING MANNER... LET HER REST IN PEACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ...HER FAMILY

It is nice to see all the mudslinging, name calling, laying the blame on everyone else people here (NOT) but we are missing the most important aspect of this story. 2 young women lost there lives to a drug that is sweeping our nation, If they were drug users or not is erelovant, we dont have to argue the fact that they in fact did at least try this drug amoung others that fateful night, which ultimentally cost them there precious lives. These 2 girls were young, very pretty and had alot going for them, yes they made a mistake but we can't dwell on that nor do we need to lay the blame on the family, A child can grow up in the best of homes and still turn out to be rotten. Nothing will bring them back, the question is what are we as a society going to do to get these drug dealers and manufactures off the streets for good, they need strickter punishment, longer prison sentences. I am sorry for the loss of these 2 young ladied, my heart goes out to there family, but maybe we can take this tragedy and turn it around and start doing something positive, write to your congressman, we need to change the law when it comes to drug dealers. These girls are not here to rectify there mistake, so we need to be there voice.

WOW...what is with all this?! Two people are dead. Whether you think it was their fault or not, they died horribly & their families will never see them fully mature, or marry, or have careers, or be successful. But nooo...it has to become a vehicle for name-calling, vicious personal attacks, blaming, racist slurs, hateful comments, & general hostility. WTF?! Can't we act like adults here?

No, they weren't innocent. Mellie lived a destructive lifestyle at only 18. She liked older guys. She was into the hardcore New York club scene. It is true that she had a nose job shortly after turning 18. It doesn't sound like she had rules or much guidance at home. But by all accounts, she was still a good person who cared about others. Her parents should've set more limits, but some people are either too strict or overly lenient with their kids. Instead of passing judgement & disrespecting two dead people you know nothing about, try to show some compassion. If you've ever lost somebody you cared about, you wouldn't want their memory defiled in this way, no matter what kind of life they led. No one is invincible & no one is perfect. I read posts where people called Mellie a "dirty slut". First off, you didn't know her so shut the fuck up. Stop spreading rumors via the Internet. The families are suffering, think about that.

Second, I'm disturbed by the blatant racism here. The ethnicity of these two girls should not be the focus here. It is not important in light of what happened. And for the record, they were of Latin/Hispanic descent. Maria's parents are from Ecuador & they came to America when she was 7 years old. So they weren't "white bitches". Please do some research, check your facts before talking about people. This is not the place to be talking about how much you hate white people, black people, etc. Don't make it about race when that is not what this is about. They shouldn't have been in an apartment with older men & they shouldn't have been abusing drugs. But you know what? It's too late, because they're both deceased. If they were still alive then we could talk about being held accountable for their actions, but the fact is that they are dead and unable to defend themselves or say anything.

these girls should be the poster girls for anti-drug campaigns in new york.
oh and you know what would be funny maria on a poster for "call home after warped tour" poster.

When this website was made it was intended for friends and other's to make ADULT like blogs about Mellie and Maria, It was to give there families something to look forward to and to see all the "NICE" things being said about them but instead you immature "adults" have turned this blog into a mudsling fight fest and its sickining. I agree this site needs to removed to save the families from anymore unneeded grief. Grow up people and get a life.

There's some horrid writing here--both content and construction, but that's probably just a sad reality of our society, and not the focus of this post. There also seems to be no shortage of people who didn't bother to learn anything about these two young ladies before spouting off with "informed opinions" about the story, and respective back stories, of their sad and untimely demise. That's pretty irresponsible. I recently read the New York Magazine article on them and my interest in finding out more about Mellie and Maria led me here.

Why was their story so popularized? Well, they were young, attractive (with Mellie an aspiring model), popular, and they got caught up in an overwhelming world of criminals, drugs, nightlife, and music--Mellie in particular. Yes, I'm sure it helped that they were both fair-skinned. Is that fair? No. Still, this story had all the elements of a compelling story--the kind the American masses consume voraciously in novels, television, and film: two young, smart, arguably privileged beauties, with a lot of positives in place for each, became involved in a seedier world, one that few around them had knowledge of or access to.

For better or for worse, this story of two "girls next door" is a more sensational, compelling, and accessible (cautionary) tale to most than the story of a poor crackhead's demise ever gets to be, or quite frankly, ever would organically grow to be.

R.I.P. Maria and Mellie.

Aside from the distasteful stupidity of your petty arguments, it is hard to take any of your rants seriously when you don't know the difference between "your" vs. "you're", "through" vs. "threw". Read a book, do a crossword puzzle - do something else with yourselves rather than speak ill of two people who literally made the biggest mistake of their lives...

“Strange is our situation here upon earth. Each of us comes for a short visit, not knowing why, yet sometimes seeming to divine a purpose. From the standpoint of daily life however, there is one thing I do know: that we are here for the sake of each other, above all, for those upon whose smile and well-being our own happiness depends, and also for the countless unknown souls with whose fate we are connected by a bond of sympathy. Many times a day I realize how much my own outer and inner life is built upon the labors of others, both living and dead, and how earnestly I must exert myself in order to give in return as much as I have received and am still receiving.”
