Friday August 5th CBGB Lineup Update | Bush Tetras
"The Bush Tetras were part of the New York No Wave/ Post Punk era in the early 80's. Mostly female, like ESG, their basic punky funk mixed with chaotic rough guitar riffs is now quite hard to find as their limited releases on ROIR and 99 records have been hunted by DJs worldwide." [TIGERSUSHI]

You should make a CBGB section for all this info, like the CMJ one.

the concert was near perfect.
Kid Congo took the stage a few minutes after 8pm missing his drummer. he was in great spirits dancing around the stage pointing at the mellow crowd then talking about his past cbgb shows with the CRAMPS and GUN CLUB. this man is a living legend.
next up were Elliot Sharp (CARBON) a noise duo that last played cbgbs march 14th 1983 according to sharp who jammed out LIGHTNING BOLT style 20 years before that duo was born.
then the Bush Tetras stomped out to a finally full audience who cheered loudly after each song. the set was tight drawing from their first 3 eps. they brought out another vocalist named Angela Yaeger (ex-ASEXUALS and BARBED WIRED HALO) and a saxophonist named Andy Haas
(ex-Martha & the Muffins) who banged out their "biggest hit" You Can't Be Funky.. people were dancing and bobbing along in disbelief. bands who try to recreate this new york 99 records sound fail terribly. leave it to the originals. liquid liquid, esg, maximum joy, vivien goldman, y pants, glenn branca, bush tetras and so on...
too bad most people left after the bush tetras since ari up from the SLITS was up next. ari took the stage while the tetras were packing up. she grabbed the mic and said she was ready to go on but her band wasn’t. she talked about just landing in new york from london. and started the show off with 6 SLITS songs. love und romance, fm, shoplifting, newtown, so tough, typical girls and played 2 solo songs i'm allergic and punky reggae. she talked about her coordinated black and yellow outfit and did a fashion show strut. i cannot get over how HAPPY she was, very manic and encouraging the audience to sing and make bird calls for certain parts of her songs. she took a bunch of her "typical girls" on stage to help with the SLITS harmonies. then did a CLASH cover of "Police And Thieves" which was a full on crowd pleaser. finally ending with the SLITS cover of "Man Next Door". perfect end to a perfect set. would have loved a huge collaboration between all the legends.
