What to do? The (not yet) complete 2005 CMJ Lineup/Guide

The 2005 CMJ lineup is now official, but it still looks incomplete. All bands listed at Warsaw say 7pm, the openers for the Doves show at Warsaw are not even listed (tix on sale), Devotchka isn't listed at Irving Plaza (tix on sale), etc...

I ran through the listings real quick and picked out what I think are the hot shows. What do you think?

I'll comment first. The Clap Your Hands show at Mercury Lounge is the first chance most non-New Yorkers will have to see them live. Clap Your Hands played/will-play here like 10 times this summer. They're playing with other NYC bands who play here all the time. I don't know why any New Yorker would go to that show Friday night.

You forgot the new pornographers.

Since they're coming on at seven, there should be more than enough time to get uptown to summerstage before 8:55.

thanks. added np show,.

For me the the only day I haven't decoded on what to show to see is Friday.

Posted by danfun | August 24, 2005 2:56 PM

Any info on Lee Perry? Someone commented that it was cancelled.

Posted by Max Power | August 24, 2005 3:05 PM

Thursday 9/15 is shaping up as the triple bill of the millenium with the New Pornographers, Arcade Fire and Cloud Cult. Granted, all three bands are at different venues. Will have to tune up the bicycle for that marathon music day.

Posted by jared | August 24, 2005 3:49 PM

Oh, on Sept. 14, you've got to check out Kingsbury Manx. I would if I'd be around. They've got some dates opening for Wilco in later Sept. and are a CMJ reg.

Posted by Kid Twist | August 24, 2005 10:08 PM

rock rocks

Posted by brooklynvegan | August 25, 2005 12:00 AM

Aaargh. I've been waiting to see the Morning After Girls; why do they have to be playing at the same time as the Arcade Fire?

Most Serene Republic @ Hiro 9/16, 6:30PM (and will also be back w/Metric @ Bowery & Southpaw in October).

Posted by J | August 25, 2005 1:22 AM

THANX J! after last night, i WILL be at that show.

BV: two other shows that I think are highlights are Aqueduct at Mercury Lounge on wed and The Rosebuds/Merge showcase at Rothko on Friday. I will also definitly be at the Theory 8 showcase at CB's lounge on Wednesday, to see The Whole Fantastic World.

there is a band called Sigur Ros playing on Tuesday the 13th....I hear they are very good.

Posted by HonkMyDong | August 25, 2005 9:34 AM

Brooklyn Vegan, I know you're a man that is not afraid of the rock.

That is why I'd recommend Columbus OH's The Evil Queens for your CMJing pleasure. Out here in Columbus we've been loving them forever, but it's time they start getting the recognition they deserve on a national scale.

http://theevilqueens.com/

Their CMJ show is Friday 9/16 @ Pussycat Lounge. Their set time is 12am.

Posted by robert duffy | August 25, 2005 9:38 AM

I heard that band Sigur Ros is playing on the 12th too.

Posted by brooklynvegan | August 25, 2005 9:39 AM

Oh yeah, The Plot To Blow Up The Eiffel Tower is at CB's lounge on wed too. Clearly, that is the place to be on wed. ; )

Then over to merc for aqueduct. hopefully.

Kanine Records have their CMJ showcase at Pianos on the 14th. Mommy & Daddy, Oxford Collapse, Four Volts, Mixel Pixel, and Grizzly Bear are playing.

Posted by Rita | August 25, 2005 11:31 AM

Immuh gonna be seeing Sigur Ros on the 13th... it's going to be an emotional show for me, I know it. And then it's Arcade Fire on Thursday... not sure what I should do for Wednesday though... or IF I should do anything at all...

Hmmm...

"Clearly, (Cb's Lounge) is the place to be on wed."

hint hint

No mention of the Merge showcase on the 16th? Gotta give it up for the Raleigh/Chapel Thrill crowd. Plus Brooklyn's own Richard Buckner opening.
