Carlo, Adam Shore, Dig!, Dandy Warhols Tour, Tix

ANTON NEWCOMBE & CARLO MCCORMICK @ PIANOS
Brian Jonestown Massacre @ Pianos

I hardly watch TV and movies anymore. It's no surprise then that I first saw the documentary (Dig!) about Brian Jonestown Massacre and the Dandy Warhols for the first time last night. It successfully tells the story of rival bands who love each other. It gives you an inside look at the music industry. I liked it.

Dig! People, that know the band members personally, provide commentary throughout the movie. One in particular is Carlo McCormick from PAPER magazine. If you were at the Brian Jonestown show at Pianos Tuesday night (Sept 20, 2005), you'll remember him as the soft-spoken white-haired guy who tried to get Anton to play a song. He even promised sexual favors. That's him under the Anton-invaded sound-booth in the picture above.

It's also worth pointing out one other main character. Adam Shore is the TVT Records A&R rep that signed Brian Jonestown Masscare. If you didn't realize it already, Adam went on to manage VICE Records and popularize the phrase "indie yuppie."

The Dandy Warhols (who give a shout-out to vegans in Bohemian Like You") are touring (Webster Hall included). Tickets are on presale (password: Odditorium). All dates and info at their site. Their last NYC was at CBGB for CMJ last week. Jen reviewed it for Gothamist.

You can buy the 2-DVD Dig! documentary at Amazon

If he did in fact popularize the phrase "indie-yuppie", he should be beaten with a stick. :-)

Seriously, though, I know this thread if played out, but how annoying is this phrase (even more so that Pitchfork started using it every time The Flaming Lips, a band they used to like, pop up)? That's a rhetorical question. Satan forbid that someone actually works for a living as he or she matures into adulthood and likes cool music, too, huh?
