"Bronxcarnovore's" (aka "Brooklynvegansucks" aka "brooklynvegan" (some times) aka "asshoooleee" aka "fred" ) obnoxious spam comment is gone (as is the one he/she just left saying I give babies aids to support Housing Works). negative comments and criticism are ok. assholes are not.
Posted by brooklynvegan | September 1, 2005 2:30 PM
That is an amazing photographic coincidence. Wow.

Was I the only one here laughing at the "BV gives babies AIDS to support Housing Works"? comment (I didn't see the original comment, just what BV said). He/she sounds like a real piece of work, but that was hysterical. Sorry BV.

i was there the first time james brown ever played a show. he was horrible. louis fucking armstrong had to apologize for his ass all night, and he wasn't much better, although "west end blues" fucking RAWKED!!! at least the big bopper held it down that night. I believe that was like, only the third time he had ever played and he was on so much fucking cocaine it was crazy. he didn't come on until 3:00am and kept mumbling about getting blown by patti smith, a mutant rat, and ultragirll in the bathroom. i think this was back in the summer of '98.

I'm all for CBs moving to Vegas, well aware of the irony that will pop up say, a year from now when they start booking Bowery-level acts and I start talking road trips.
P.S. to dBs poster: Damn, you reminded me I forgot to get reunion show tix for Maxwells, and of course it's sold out now :(
Posted by tricia | September 1, 2005 4:35 PM
Tricia- Missed tix for that too. Let's hope there's more dB's shows to come.
Posted by drewo | September 1, 2005 4:40 PM
To those of you looking for dB's tickets: the only place you can get tickets for either show now is at Tunes in Hoboken (on Washington St. between 2nd and 3rd Streets) since they're sold out on Ticketweb and at Other Music. As of yesterday, they had 3 tickets left for the 19th and 13 tickets left for the 20th. I'd give them a call first before heading now there, though. Their # is (201) 653-3355. Good luck and see you there (I'll be there on the 19th).

Thanks for the tip incaraq!
Posted by drewo | September 1, 2005 5:04 PM
You're welcome, drewo. I know this because even though I got tickets for myself and several others a while ago on Ticketweb (when I first went on sale), I have a friend in the Czech Republic who just booked a flight today to fly in for these shows (as well as the 2 shows they're doing in Chicago) and he didn't buy tickets, so I got 1 ticket for each night for him and that's how I did it (well actually I got a friend who lives in Hoboken to do it for me, but regardless). Again, good luck to you! They won't hold a ticket for you if they're available (they hassled my friend about that yesterday; I had the woman who was working hold a ticket for me when she wasn't supposed to; apparently she's new there) so if you want one and you don't wanna be left looking on craigslist, I'd haul ass down there ASAP (if they're still available).

P.S. That was hysterical, skinnyslim.

CB's died a long time ago. It's the Hard Rock Cafe for retro punk posers. They stopped booking good music in the main club about 15-20 years ago. I've played there and I can say that they weren't even particularly good to bands in the main space...but I always enjoyed the gallery and bar in the basement. I'm sure the Ramones were great there but this whole SAVE CBGB's thing is a little retarded. If all the people in Washington Square Park actually hung out there, they'd be able to pay their rent.
Posted by jimbo | September 1, 2005 5:34 PM
It's so punk rock to say that CB's is past its prime and full of retro punk posers, huh? For those of us that haven't lived in New York for a long time, it's still a cultural landmark. Hell, I grew up hanging out at the Rat in Boston every weekend, and CBGB is still a cultural icon for me. Whatever it is now as far as the bands that play there and the people it draws, it's still an important piece of musical history and of punk rock history, and now that I'm living here, I'm more than excited to see whatever shows I still can down there.

go back to the rat you red sox scum. cbgb's is for new york sports fans only. we're all fighting for a place where native sports fans can enjoy the game while listening to country, blue grass, and even a little blues.
