Hunter Thompson's Suicide Note
"...Oh, well. His ashes were fired into the sky near his home in Woody Creek, Colo., on Aug. 20 with lots of fireworks. That seemed to bring us some kind of suitably mad "closure," as the TV shrinks say.
Now, Rolling Stone magazine, for which he wrote a lot of his best stuff in the '70s, has published a note he wrote to Anita four days before he killed himself in the kitchen.
The note doesn't make you feel any better about his timing with the phone call and the son and grandson hearing the gun go off, but it turns out that our first, and nobler, explanations had some truth to them after all.
"No More Games. No More Bombs. No More Walking. No More Fun. No More Swimming. 67. That is 17 years past 50. 17 more than I needed or wanted. Boring. I am always bitchy. No Fun -- for anybody. 67. You are getting Greedy. Act your old age. Relax -- This won't hurt."
With a sort of cryptic, ironic, metaphorical hilarity, he took a black marker and titled the note: "Football Season Is Over."..." [Washington Post]

a wild man, the kind people admire and fear, say its sad, or arrogant or less than noble - tough shit, he's gone.

It's a bummer he's dead. I think his suicide and this note are consistent with the rest of his life. His spirit will endure a longer than most.

How mad do you have to be at your kid, grankid, and wife to blow your brains out in front of them? Look at his books: Make a mess, insult boring middle class mooks, enjoy the applause from hunter-wannabes that don't have the nerve to shock the booboisie, and leave the mess to the immigrant hotel staff to clean up after you leave for your next big adventure. Then type it up after you straighten up. Get paid for the freak-show.
big deal.
what a hero.

the man created a style of journalism and a way of thinking that allowed readers to experience an event rather than simply observing the play by play. what have you jack asses done other than eat vegetables and bitch about the government while never actually voting? i see a lot of green on this site; mostly jealousy regarding the freedom and muddled clarity HST helped to cultivate in a world full of greed and you people.

A man who could see better and wrote better than most. The only druggie who was inebriated with objectivity and honesty more than drugs. "When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro." -HST.
Thank you & miss you HST.

Arlo Nymaven, its people like you that killed hunter. and yet, its people like you that powered the mans main nerve, so keep feeding the beast with your ignorance and misunderstanding, for gonzo strives off your kind..

Among the variety of features incorporated into modern watches are: self-winding mechanisms, substitution of an electrochemical cell for the mechanical mainspring, and several forms of electromechanical escapement in place of the balance-and-hairspring mechanism.See also replica watches
